at the edge of the lake – v5

Rising to Sunrise, no alarm needed,
Ready, Morning bursts in light;
Day awakens, stirring,
Night banished from sight.

At the edge of the lake, silent, a mirror,
a golden surface, alive, ablaze;
Woken from Night's slumber;
Ready, a start, a new day.

A #squadron of #geese – v3

A flotilla, a squadron, of geese
descending from Canada
crossing the lake, by air, by sea,
crashing, storming my beach
like Normandy this morning
an allied invasion, a crescendo.

Honking, bleating like sheep,
shouting commands, Reveille;
No gun emplacements
to stop their progress,
no mines, razor wire.

I was still sleeping,
before my first cup of coffee
sunlight filling
My one-room cabin,
Watching their forward progress
From a safe distance.

June Morning – v3

Dawn on the lake
My world is still.
Water like a mirror.
Land and water blur.
Bold bright colors in the
Morning light.

Steam rises from the still surface
In wisps and swirls, like gossamer,
Soon to evaporate
In the warming air.

Birds and I stir
Ready to face a new day.
Above me a chorus
Joins my world.

A flock of Canadian geese
A squadron of at least
Twenty-five land off the point.
A splash, a great commotion,
Squawking and trumpeting
Their arrival near shore.

Tea on the porch
Soaking it all in,
The wonder of God’s creation;
Oops, time for work.

we stand on God’s grace

not by the law, our righteousness
not by our deeds, our acts in this life;
we stand on God’s grace,
on His unmerited love,
on the sacrifice, the blessing,
the hope in our resurrection
because Christ came down,
taking on our sin
the stain of the judgment
the hope we have in Him
in grace when the winds blow
the challenges, the struggles
temptations in life
only by God’s grace
may we see Paradise
