A squadron of geese

A flotilla, a squadron, of geese
crossing the lake
crashing, storming my beach
like Normandy this morning
Honking, bleating like sheep,
No gun emplacements to stop their progress;
I was still sleeping,
before my first cup of coffee
sunlight illuminating
My room, the cabin,
Watching their forward motion
From a safe distance.
