Pool or Chess – v2

He prowled the room
Around the table
Intent, certain
Focused, efficient
Body bent, contorted
To make this shot
and the next, already planned
from angle and motion,
just enough, push,
to sink it, another,
Be ready

A miscue, a pause
to think, a sip of the bourbon
lick the new butt from the pack
light the spark
feel the heat, alive,
the new-smoke licking his face
Laugh for effect
Through affable eyes

Work the table
in syncopation
Ball on ball
does it really matter
Smoke and music
Lean into the glass
Slide down the throat
Smile, deep

Laugh at the banter
A Game, not so important
but for him, a challenge
a test of will, control where he can
Easy on his feet and in a crowd
Working the room, his eyes,
as he does, everyman and friend
comfortable confidante
Eight ball in corner pocket
… Sweet

to share Christ

wearing Christ
the cross, the symbol
to share Christ
our witness
wearing Christ
out in the open
needing to be faithful
to truly be
a light to the nations
a beacon, God’s promise
a message of love
in this world
wearing Christ
not a fashion statement
offering love
as he showed us

wearing his cross
upon our bodies
around our necks
a yoke to remind us
Christ’s sacrifice present
the empty cross
victory for us
redeemed from the dust

wearing a cross upon us
around our necks
but not acting as Christ did
our neighbors as ourselves
loving ourselves only
seeking the brass ring
diluting the cross of power

sapping the cross

wicking the Spirit
sapping the cross
removing some of its power
when we act this way
wearing the cross of Jesus
but acting as the world does
not conformed to the Spirit
held by the world

In Human Form – v3

Stepping down from heaven
into a human womb
The eternal a baby
the infinite so small

Vulnerable, a human
of dust, of the clay
the omniscience, immortal
bound to the earth

In human form alone
no longer all-powerful
Christ here on the earth
walking as lowly man

A servant of the Master
the Son of the Living God
Born a child, humble
living in the world

a silent shout

words unspoken
from another plane
an alternate reality
a place far away
a silent shout
in my mind, my spirit,
yearning to reach me
to speak some truth
not reaching me somehow
something afoot

I will live with God forever – v2

why am I timid
do I not really believe
the promise of God
the power of the cross
our assurance, our comfort
I will live with God forever
at the end of my days
The promise for all
given by God freely
to love us forever
if we believe

Wooing them to her

Beginning with a question
about the lesson to come
gathering the children to her
offering them God’s love
Wooing them to her
bringing them in
centered on our Creator
who causes us to live

Sharing with them the Savior
who gives us new life
Speaking of the Spirit
who walks by our side
Wooing them to her
from the noise of the world
centered on our Creator
on the love of our God
