Investing Our Coins

The gifts, the grace
the bounty poured out
our cup overflowing
with God’s love

The gifts we are given
the moments of grace
poured into our hearts
wanting to be poured out

Investing our coins
in others, our neighbors
sharing his love
with the ones near to us

Going further
to our neighbors
those in other flocks
farther from home

All to be told
the wonders of his majesty
his mercies abounding
and his endless love

Sharing with others
all of the peoples
investing our coins
to all the nations
returning gifts
unto the Lord

Compounding Grace

Building on our gifts
studying his word
sharing with others
all those on earth

Compounding grace
giving it freely
souls changed forever
coming to the Lord

Sharing the message
using our gifts
reaping a bounty
in response to his grace

Investing Our Gifts

Not to be hidden
under a bushel
upon a lamp stand
into their hearts

The grace we are given
gifts of the Spirit
invested in service
that all would know Christ

Reaping a harvest
a return on the investment
investing our gifts
that they may bear many fruit

Not because we have to

Not like the story
the master angry
the third servant
returning what he was given

Wanting to give back
more than we were given
not because we have to
but motivated by love

Feeling so blessed
to be blessed by our savior
to feel him with us
all of our lives

Wanting, from our spirit
God too within us
wanting to return
a harvest for God

Returning More

Giving more than we were given
so is our prayer
On the day of judgment
returning more to our master
more than we were given
a return on his investment
in the grace poured on us
that we would live as disciples
spreading his love

Telling others
the joy of his presence
walking with Christ
all of our days
What is feels like
to sense the Spirit
guiding our path
making our way straight

Returning to God

From their exile
from the foreign land
returning to God
to the promised land

Rebuilding the wall
around the city
each doing their part
faithful to his calling

A people assembled
the nation redeemed
set in his temple
the children of Abraham

Rebuilding the Wall

The people returning
called from their exile
home to the lord
in the city of the king

Rebuilding the wall
after years of neglect
fixing the holes
redeeming their lives

Returning to God
the holy one of the patriarchs
returning to their land
believing in his call

Going and doing
carrying out the work
endlessly working
until the job was done

rebuilding the wall

Living My Faith

Sharing in my actions
the words that I believe
sharing in my life
the truth of my faith

Acts of love, of kindness
living my faith

taking opportunities
little moments of grace

Tending the soil
sowing the seeds, seeking you
our lamps always full
expectantly waiting on God

Not knowing what will bloom
in his time
just assured of

Studying your word
your love revealed in him
cleaving to you
my rock

Trusting in God
in his plan
answers in his time
grace to be poured out

God Then and Now

In every generation
God there with us
though his footprints are unseen
God is there with us
Through the ancient history
to the present age
our hope is in the Lord
God then and now

When He Set His Face

(on Jerusalem)

All of his life a journey
for that moment
turning from his ministry
when he set his face
on Jerusalem

No other purpose
would get in the way
for this and only this reason
did he come to earth

Taking his disciples
that they would understand
when the Spirit came
and they were sent forth

Teaching and healing
on the way there
yet journeying to Jerusalem
following the master’s call
his glory to reveal

Look No Further

There is no mystery
we conjure to make it difficult
look no further than Christ
to understand God

While he was human
he was also one
joined with the creator,
the Spirit, the three yet one

The face of the infinite
how it was meant to be
God and man walking
learning by the sea

Love so great
he gave up paradise
emptied of his power
walking as a man
to share the grace of God

Love is the answer
Jesus is the key
to understand the master
follow the man of Calvary

Only in Jesus

Watch what he did
as he walked in Galilee
choosing to take on the mantle
to answer the servant cal

Washed by the Spirit
tempted in the wilderness
living his whole life
a willing servant of God

Offering hope not rules
the loving spirit of the law
unbound by the written word
giving us his all

Changing our fate completely
becoming the lamb
turning his life over
submitting to the master’s plan

The eyes of our savior
crying for us
calling us to rise with him
to walk with him again

In Him, In Christ

In him is our treasure
all wisdom and knowledge
safe within him

Needing to go no further
so search nowhere else
only to study his actions, his words
to live by his very life

Only in him do we see
all wisdom and knowledge
how to walk on the earth
and how to know God

Study his words closely
see how he walked in this life
becoming a servant completely
sacrificing for us

Love for the ages
graced poured out for all
seeking to redeem us
if we would answer his call

Turn from the world completely
going where our master leads
wearing the yoke of our savior
doing his work in the fields

When we ask Rightly

Maybe we need to reread
the laments of the people
who spoke of remembering
when God was faithful
when the creator was
present with us
when the master
answered their prayer

Maybe instead,
we should look inward
God is always with us
a presence on the way
Maybe our prayers weren’t worthy
of our master’s answer
maybe when we ask rightly
we would see him clearly
and his message for us

Only seeking good
pouring out his blessing
God’s love sufficient
for all of our needs
Submitting like Jesus
to the servant call
Trusting in our savior
He is our all in all

Remembering His Gifts

In times of crisis
when Christ feels far away
focus on our history
remembering his gifts
God’s answer to prayer

The bits of grace heaped on us
when we felt close to him
little piece of meaning
meeting our daily needs

Filling some niche
something that we needed
God close by us
all of our days

Even when we wander
struggle to sense him
God with us always
just as he promised

seeking the blessing of God
focused on our master

Choosing to be faithful
ignoring other voices
following our savior

Clothed Like the Lilies

In the finery of God
our every need met
in wondrous grace

Clothed like the lilies
fed like the birds
watered like the grasses
held in his arms

A List of My Worries

Clothed with my savior
Fed by the living water
Guided by the Spirit
Given my daily bread

Nurtured in my faith
Shaped by his loving hand
Saved by his sacrifice
Raised with Christ to live
in the gift of today

Not a list of my worries,
assurance in the Lord;
He is our creator,
our every need met,
sustaining us evermore.

Dropping our nets by the seaside
leaving our past behind
going immediately
joyfully
when our savior calls

Today, is the moment

when he calls our name
seek his path for you

Endlessly, unceasing
singing praises to joy
joyfully sharing
the love of our savior
the light shining in us

All of our lives singing
when we come to believe
early or just for a moment

deeper and wider, glorious

singing praises ever

Yielding to the Spirit

Yielding to the Spirit
letting God guide our feet
turning with our freedom
closer to the Lord

Not to do anything
our human nature would do
serving as our savior did
that all may know the Lord

Using our freedom wisely
knowing we have feet of clay
yielding to the Spirit
going a better way

Fighting with the Spirit

In our nature
we with feet of clay
fighting with the Spirit
trying to have our own way
Needing to understand
the turning to the Lord
giving up the things of the earth
letting God be in control

Turning our hearts inward
to the Spirit calling to us
beating with our hearts
leading us to him
answering the deepest questions
the yearnings of our hearts
only when we are quiet
hearing his call to us

Our way informed
if we follow the Christ
yoked to our savior
every day of our life

Instructed by the Spirit
speaking clearly to us
guiding us when we are willing
conforming our steps to him

Only in this manner
lifting our feet of clay
walking with our savior
on the streets paved with gold

An Opportunity to Serve

Humbled by the grace of Christ
his sacrifice
going to the cross for me
setting me free from death

Wanting to be faithful
awestruck by his gift
seeking to respond
in the way of love

Brought low in my thinking
humble before the Lord
wanting to be worthy
of his offering

Freed not to be selfish
our own way in the world
called like Christ to service
doing all we can

With Humble Feet of Clay

Walking day to day
upon this good earth
safe in my savior
though I am weak

With humble feet of clay
I journey in this life
only in my savior
do I feel safe inside

Leaning on his strength
on him do I stand
at peace, held
in his loving hand

safe within his arms

Fed by the Living Waters

Tapping the springs of heaven
filling my cup
fed by the living waters
drinking, drinking them up

Raised from the depths
lifted by his mighty hand
placed upon the rock
on his do I stand

Healing a process
turning from my sin
safety in my savior
in him I am restored

Fed with the waters
filling my heart
bringing me closer to Jesus
saved by the blood of the lamb

Peace with Man

God’s holy peace
with man, all of creation
healed by his sacrifice
the blood of the lamb
the altar of the cross

Eternal Christ
God personified
given life, feet of clay
that we may see love
God personified

Study his walk
how he lived his life
how he humbled himself
dying for us
a death on the cross

Love is him
God personified
going to the cross
rising again
that we may live in him

Jesus is God

Jesus is God
love personified
down from heaven
walking on the earth

Jesus is God
made of the clay
alive in us
to this very day

Jesus is God
showing us grace
loving our neighbors
all of our days

Jesus is God
the first born
before all that is
in him do I live

God’s Love in Christ

God is love
and Christ is love
and he is the lamb
the shepherd of our lives

Understanding God
through the way he walked
in servanthood
we have eternal birth

Not because we must
because it is a free choice
to take up his yoke
or follow the world

Christ is love
God come to earth
sharing the creator
that all would come home

God’s hand upon us
watching over us
seeking only
everything for good

With us ever
in good times or bad
there with us
all of our days

Everything for God
guiding us onward

Equal with Me

Loving my neighbor
all my neighbors
equal with me
loving them as I love myself.

How would I feel
on the receiving end
of my thoughts, my words,
my actions, all my life?

What would I do
if I saw all of this
reflected in a mirror
back upon myself?

How will I change
having read this verse;
more humbly, I hope
I bow in prayer to thee.

Sharing my walk
more freely, lovingly
seeing all others as equals
a mirror on me
in every word or deed.

Walking with the Christ

Following his call
as did the first disciples
Though we do not see him
the physical Christ with us,
yet we hear him,
when we truly listen
calling us to follow
to fish these waters
rich with his bounty
seeking a harvest for the Lord

burned away

Carrying Their Neighbor

Some men of the community
knowing the power of Christ
acting on their faith
bringing the man to him

Carrying their neighbor
that he would enter in
that he could be healed by Christ
able to walk again

Finding a barrier
the way blocked to Christ
opening up the roof
that he may enter in

All of God’s children
needing our help
to reach the Christ
that they may enter in

Raising Up Their Faith

Raising up their faith
not just their friend
Going to lengths
to bring him to Christ

Nothing would stop them
knowing his power
Believing enough
to tear the roof off

Raising up their faith
up onto the rooftops
Entering in
by outstretched hands

There with Jesus
at the feet of our savior
Honored by Christ’s blessing
because of their faith

Healed in an instant
picking up his mat
Going as Christ sent him
out into the world

The others surprised
astonished by Jesus
But not the friends
who had carried him in

They had known already
somehow guided
Their faith strong enough
that walls did not stand in their way

Handicapped Accessible

Ancient friends
without any regulations
not accepting
that their friend
could not enter in

Raising him up
onto the rooftop
tearing a hole
in the building’s roof

Lowering him down
right before our Savior
healed by the faith
made fully clean

Making this place
open to their neighbor
the one on the mat
unable to walk

Brought into the sanctuary
where Christ was preaching
not accepting no
and finding a way

Peace in Our Savior

Peace only coming
resident in our faith
Peace in our savior
in no other
No other way
to feel calm in the storm
Only in Christ
the strength of the Spirit
Guiding our steps
when we are afraid
Leading us on
closer to the Father
Until that bright day
when we see him face to face
For now, comfort
in the arms of our brother
Following the master’s call
for all of our days

A Citadel of Peace

In the midst of the chaos
struggles of life
God is our oasis
a citadel of peace
Into him may we find rest

Looking inward
to the spirit’s calming
set apart in our hearts
in the arms of the Lord

Comfort in God’s protection
even in
the storms of this life

The Bean Beckons

Out of my way
those wandering
not focused on what
they are there to acquire
move from in front
to the sidelines
the bean beckons
and I am on the way

Coffee in My Coffee

When I am asked
wondering what to say
the many extras
just get in the way

What I want
is coffee in my coffee
give it to me hot
I need it right now

Nothing extra
layered, swirling in my cup
nothing shaken, poured
just coffee in my cup

Acting immediately
without a permit
no engineering study
just getting it done

Cutting a hole
lifting the tiles
carrying the man
up onto the roof

Lowering him down
right before Jesus
healing him
by the depth of their faith

Forgiving him sin
making him whole
telling him to rise
praising almighty God

Healed by Their Service

The man on the mat
paralyzed, unable to walk
carried by his friends
taking him to Jesus
bringing him to the one
who could heal our brokenness

Not willing to accept no for an answer
the physical no barrier
for committed friends
lifting him up
through the roof
lowering before Christ

Our savior open
giving the man healing
for the faith of the ones
who lowered him down
moved by their faith
healing the brokenness
forgiving his sins
making him whole

A Hole in the Ceiling

Urgent construction
without a permit
the friends of the man
acting in love
Making a hole
up in the ceiling
down through the roof
to bring him to Christ

Knowing there
in the sanctuary,
in his presence
all should come
no matter their illness
Serving him
by helping their brother
bringing him before the Lord

Lifting Him Up

The friends rightly named
of the paralytic
carried to where Jesus was
not stopped by the barrier
taking it on themselves
to get him to Christ

Lifting him up
though he was injured
a beggar on the street
asking for food
caring for him
though he could not repay them
bringing him to the roof
where they punched a hole

Lowered down,
descending to Jesus
to be healed
made well, made whole
restored from his illness
by the love of our savior
and those who had helped him
into the church

Serving, Out of Our Freedom

Our choice, in our hearts
whether we will follow
pouring out the love
that was poured down on us

Serving, out of our freedom
not by obligation
but by the stirrings of our hearts

Giving to our neighbors
the love that we have found
God revealed
in the mystery of Christ

Dying that we may know
the face of the father
Rising that we may live
with him in eternity

Serving, that they would know
the wonder of God’s grace
coming to earth as a man
rising to paradise

Serving in Freedom

Serving in love
in our freedom
freed from the law
soaring with Christ
the fetters released
rising with our savior
choosing to serve
as he did as well

Serving, with Love

Our choice, in our freedom
serving, with love
offering our neighbor
the hope we have in God

Giving of our freedom
the grace poured on us
our hearts empowered
with the Spirit within

Pouring out a blessing
the gifts we carry
offering a hand
to a neighbor in need

Healing in his name
offering the same freedom
hope in the Lord
the savior of all mankind

Lifting His Mat

The friends caring
carrying their brother
paralyzed lame,
wanting to see Jesus

Not accepting
that there was no room
lifting his mat
up onto the roof

Cutting a hole
that there would be an entrance
a way for him
to come before Christ

Carrying him
down into his presence
the Messiah healing him
that he may walk

Shards of Glass

Like exploded shards of glass
in many shapes and colors
trying to complete the puzzle
without the picture there

Explaining the creator
the loving nature of God
the Son, the Spirit,
the words we know
not nearly close enough

Like assembling stained glass
only with a glimpse of the whole
darkly in the mirror only
yet wonders to behold

Only when we cross over
into heaven above
walking on eternal legs
able to then only
truly know God

June 24, 2010
after rereading this poem
--------------------------------
Facets of the Infinite

Like infinity cubed
the facets of God
the identities
that we would understand
something about their nature
the wonder of eternity
wrapped up in one reality
all of God dancing
in infinite light
