Bright after the snowfalls – v5

The world alive
brilliant in white
the azure sky
shining back in light
So beautiful the storm
after its passing
the world all sparkle
bright after the snowfalls
while the sun bathes us

Alive with shades
grades of color
the light reflecting
off the pure snow crystals
So beautiful in these moments
times to treasure
the stillness of winter
too soon melting, changing
after the storm’s passing

Bright after the snowfalls – v3

A world alive
brilliant in white
the azure sky
shining back in light

So beautiful the storm
after its passing
bright after the snowfalls
while the sun is blazing

Teasing us to come
to spend time outside
to linger in the sunlight
to walk and look about

Warming sunshine
melting the snowdrifts
watching the glinting icicles
everywhere I go

Only in my vision

Walking around yesterday
needing to go out
in the warmth of the day
not storms about

Wanting to see the sun
wrapped in its embrace
needing to see the world
the gift of this place

God gifting me
walking to the school
picking up the girls from work
walking along the way

Only in my vision captured
nothing film could hold
watching the brightness of the snow
the icicles row on row

In Words of Smell

Rank or fragrant
rotten or sweet
the bitterness or pungency
the sharpness of the odor
in words of smell triggering
a deep memory

In Words of Texture

In words conveying the image
the way something feels
in words of texture
helping to make it real
Sharing in the senses
what this moment was like
in this may I bring to each reader
what I am trying to communicate
maybe even what I think

In Words of the Senses

In their color
in their texture
in the grace of their motions
sharing what I am feeling
in the words of the senses
trying to draw the reader
to bring them to this place
that they would experience what I am seeing
what caused me to pause and write
to bring them with me ever
into this time and place

In Words of Memory

Trying to capture the moments
the sensory overloads
Real and alive
dripping with emotion

So much of what I am trying to convey
in the words of the senses
words rich with memory
to draw the reader in

Willows Dancing

Pure white clouds
like pulled cotton
partially transparent
translucent, shining
a living backdrop
for the willows dancing

Arms moving like octopi,
sea anemone fingers
with pom-poms of green, silver
dancing to the autumn breeze
the rhythms of the dance
a mystery to me
dancing for a hidden master
singing praises for the season
to the creator, our king

In Words of Color

The changing of the leaves
the season of autumn
oranges and reds
and pure simple yellows

But words of color
more varied than these
to explain, to visualize
what we actually see

A yellow finch of the weeping willow
the cranberry of this maple
maybe the brown paper bag
tanned hides of the oak
or the pumpkin of another

We are blessed with a vibrant palette
below the azure sky
needs a crayon box of words
a cornucopia of colors
to get it just right

Awash with Light

Early-fall-morning light
the church, the stain glass
bathed, awash in light
the sun’s warming rays
flooding the face of the church
welcoming the community
reminding us of his presence
this house of God
red brick aglow
before the azure-fall sky
