only the Lord your God – v3

worship God only
only the Lord your God
nothing of this earth
nothing in the heavens
only the living God
Creator over all
the One who came to earth
walking as a man
loving us enough
to take on our sins
worthy of our praises
with us in our walk
to the end of the ages

Abel gave his best – v2

Abel gave his best
something chosen special
offered unto God
the best that he had
the first for the Lord

Offered out of praise
humble before the Creator
Maker of all that is
giving his best portion
offering all of this

weakening the cross – v2

an impediment to salvation
a shadow on the light
we stand in the way
a stumbling block to them
in our times of division
weakening the cross
the ability to save them,
those who have not heard
who have not heard the message
the truth of Christ
of God’s sacrifice
when we divide
when we become factions
fragments, schisms
not the one body
of God, of Christ
the kingdom splintered
consuming itself

higher than the law – v2

We misread scripture
the words of Christ himself
Christ did not diminish
He did not destroy the law
calling us to follow
higher than the law
to love our neighbors
as he loved us
focused on our own hearts
not to judge our neighbors
even our thoughts convict us
causing us to stumble
to fall short of the living God
making us aware of our clay
our need for his sacrifice
He is the only path
to life, to paradise

where demons dwell – v3

may demons have nowhere to hide
no heart to make a purchase
make the soil be held
in the loving arms of God

shine your light, brighter,
changing the shade, the color,
the path of the journey
the trajectory, the motion

bring your light, stronger,
into this darkness, this evil
into these shadow lands
where demons dwell

tearing them from the fabric
rip them from the ground
root them out roughly
no rest for them

no place for hiding, silent,
buried within hearts
tear them out fully
before they are torn apart

17 Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,
18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.

17 Though the mills may be shuttered
and the forests are empty,
though the fields do not provide

though the young are departing
for greener pastures,
18 yet I rejoice in my God
I will be joyful in Christ my Savior.
