A living rainforest – v2

A gift of the Creator,
my eyes open to wonder
to the magic of this moment,
to stop, to lean in
to see more clearly,
treasure in the little…
drawn to beauty,
that surrounds us all…
 
Down on my knees
drawn by vibrant color
a living rainforest
down below the tops
of the wheat stalks
of the grasses…
verdant green calling,
putting on my glasses…
 
Living chartreuse,
shimmering in the sunlight,
the new grass of spring,
now towering over me,
almost iridescent, alive,
drawing me inward,
to live, to explore, richly,
in this precious moment…

A living rainforest

Down on my knees
drawn by vibrant color
a living rainforest
down below the tops
of the wheat stalks
of the grasses…
verdant green calling,
putting on my glasses…
 
Living chartreuse,
shimmering in the sunlight,
the new grass of spring,
now towering over me,
almost iridescent, alive,
drawing me inward,
to live, to explore, richly,
in this precious moment…

the skin of an ancient reptile – v5

bright green, various shades,
the skin of an ancient reptile, conjured,
a DNA sample, reborn, alive, a cityscape,
of arteries and capillaries, pulsing,
in close-up, under the microscope,
far from its razor-sharp teeth…
 
a creature, a life force, reborn,
alive in the image, this moment,
captured before it withered, dying,
separated from the vine, water, life-force,
knitted within time, in space,
in the blessings of this place…
 
supple leather of the leaf, its flesh,
the skin of an ancient reptile,
revealed before its all-to-soon dying,
pulling the eye to drink, to linger,
to ponder, to revel in its beauty.
fleeting though it may be…

A saturation of green – v4

A saturation of green,
from chartreuse to Kelly,
hues, shades even darker, richer,
perfect color, liquid, warmth,
drawing us in, deeper…
 
A saturation of green,
calling us to stop, to linger,
to be drawn deeper in,
to each place of beauty,
alive, warmed by the sun...
 
A saturation of green,
deeper, warm for this season,
shining brightest when wet,
perfectly as they are, ablaze,
our senses overwhelmed…

A Field of Ferns – v4

Above the bluff, the scar, the washouts,
clear-cut of the high, power lines,
a forest of pine opens westward,
where the deer come to graze,
a beautiful broad flat plain.
 
Surrounded by these conifers,
a field of ferns, rising on sturdy,
erect stalks, broad leaves,
to drink the pure shafts of light,
falling briefly, through the canopy.
 
The tall mast pines, straight and true,
red-brown needles, a carpet between,
the ferns, the regal trees, an evenness,
of surface, short pile rug, northward,
to Canada, as far as the eye can see.
 
Green ferns, red-brown needles,
green-brown trunks, broad,
bright green needles, new growth,
above, reaching to blue sky,
the arc of the dome.

Drawn into the leaf – v2

Eyes seeing beauty,
Design in the structure
Intricacy of the network
Below, within, the green.
 
Drawn into the leaf,
As if transported,
A fantastic voyage, deep within,
to the design, to the sub-atomic.
 
Wooed through the membrane,
Studying beauty, precision,
The presence of God
Wandering deep within.
 
Drawn into the leaf,
Into the infinitesimal,
Moving deeper still
Touching creation….

a wet forest, clouds,
color, saturated,
intense, urgent,
giving to my lens…
 
sharing its secrets,
beauty in the commonplace,
deep into autumn,
clocks soon to fall back…
 
wet leaves underfoot,
a muted carpet before me,
colors fading, dying,
but revived by the water…
 
light saturated, living,
drawn by the water,
revealing the secrets
beauty in the commonplace…

wet leaves underfoot – v5

suddenly feeling the call
drawn to the woods, urgently,
to leave the office space
the chair where I was writing,
to breathe wet air, to drink,
going outside in the mist
out beyond the edge of the yard…
 
stepping from the grass
wet leaves underfoot
a soft, muted carpet
colors fading, autumn,
browns and pale yellows
but revived by the water,
evergreens and mosses vibrant, alive…
 
the woods beyond, as if behind a curtain
another realm, another dimension
in the awakening, the journey,
the revealing to me
sharing its secrets
deep into autumn
the clocks soon to fall back…
 
damp woods, clouds
color saturated, bleeding,
intense, urgent
almost iridescent, bright,
giving to my lens, my camera,
to my presence
wanting me to see fully…
 
light bursting forth, shining,
from leaves, moss, from rock,
drawn out by the water
a different color spectrum
revealing the secrets hidden
sharing something special
beauty in the commonplace…
