Ancient words of judgment
the Law of Moses...
Stones falling around her...
None standing righteous
all burdened with sin...
 
By the same measure
His words, written in the dust...
God is fully aware...
Their sins present, living,
filling their minds...
 
Focused on their own sin...
They left her with Jesus...
a sinner uncondemned
called to be righteous,
to turn from her past...
 
So too we stand condemned
as children of Adam
and by the sins we carry
But we do not have to fear
the judgment of others...
Jesus' hand sweeps the dust...

Co-parenting with her rapist – v4

Her nightmare unending, each word triggering,
his smirk, his facial expressions a dagger, a threat,
her constant pain, PTSD, violence remembered,
co-parenting with her rapist…
 
Afraid of the father of her unwanted child,
but bound to him by law, process, procedures,
mandated by the State, the oppressor,
trying to remain the Friendly Parent…
 
Knowing all too well his manipulation, amygdala hijack,
the Law’s bias, the pushing, being backed into a corner,
seeking only to love, to raise her children
behind her tears, her brave face…
 
Confined within the strictures, the structure, the laws,
forced to be bound at the hip, co-parenting,
with the Beast at the other table,
his power, his anger which she hates…

He bade the #beast welcome

I wrote these lines without knowing

(how I now wish I had understood)
how true they were in that moment
that a corner had been turned, already,
that there was no coming back.
 
An ancient enemy was called, awakened,
from many years of quiet, of slumber;
He gave the Beast power again,
Calling it forth, by name,
out in our broken world.
 
He bade the Beast welcome,
the dark spirit within him;
He called forth the terror,
The distemper, the fever,
others surely hide.
 
The Beast left a mask upon him
grotesque and garish;
His life was taken over
the Beast now his persona,
his very essence, his Id.
 
Unbound by convention, by law,
societal norms and mores,
He willingly opened Pandora’s Box,
the Beast was loose within him.
alive, fully in control.

Cries of the battered woman – v4

Her voice too shrill,
her anger surging up,
yet trying to be “friendly”;
Tears rising from her soul
triggered pain bubbling up.
 
I can hear them now,
authentic, all too real,
cries of the battered woman;
Standing all alone beside me
seeking only justice.

We all watched in #horror – v2

A day evoking old memories, wounds,

like the shuttle Challenger disaster,

those moments, tragedy, loss,

when we were changed as a people

joined in one purpose, at war,

attacked from without

but more united within.

 

Those days of terror more a blur

muting the most painful edges

but brought back in focus

for at least a day, September 11,

when the twin towers fell,

the Pentagon was hit,

when heroes died in a field

calling us to be united within.

 

We all watched in horror

Terror, Hell in all its fury

carnage heaped upon us

watching in real-time

a nation now at war

attacked from without

but more united within.

 

We were changed

in those moments

but the years have

brought war, division,

a stressing of our nation,

our one common vision;

we have divided into camps,

no longer united within.
