like nectar poured from heaven,
like water to those who thirst...
coming in communion with scripture
drinking these words of Jesus
dripping from His lips...
prayed over the disciples
sensing the tension, the fear,
in the upper room...
sharing of the cup
eating of the bread
Falling down in worship
in cleaving to Christ’s command
to love as He loved us,
walking humbly in the world...
 
immersed in the living word,
dipping our bodies, our souls,
into these living waters...
pausing to breathe deeply
of the promises in His words,
the command to love one another
to abide in Christ’s love...
offered in these words
in the hot upper room,
but more by His example,
His choice to climb the cross...
Being prepared to see our neighbor
our brothers and sisters as worthy
of our love, our very lives...

the truth of this moment –
these witnesses testify –
Christ rose from the dead
and they believed...
 
help us to believe
for our faith is fickle,
make us to witness
to testify to life...
 
Christ is risen,
He is our Savior,
He is our living hope
in life and in death...
 
We are risen,
resurrected with Jesus,
We live already with Him
in the spiritual realm...
 
help us to believe

The Hour Had Come,
the minutes were racing
the pace accelerating
But Christ was at peace...
 
“Rise”, Jesus said to them,
“Let us go from this place”...
Destiny calls us –
I must drink of that cup...
 
Nothing overwhelmed Him,
He was in control –
God in the flesh, before them,
The great I Am...
 
Leaving that place,
heading to the Garden...
His betrayal at hand,
His Hour had come...

The Devil was present with them
in the upper room
as Jesus washed their feet
as His hour had come...
 
Jesus gave the Devil permission
for Satan to enter Judas...
Christ set the night in motion,
saying he may leave...
 
Christ knew the deception,
The bargain that Judas entered...
Satan entered Judas,
and it was night...

In Job, the Devil gets permission from God to go after Job. In John 13,
we see Satan is given permission to enter Judas from Jesus.
That means Satan was somehow present in the upper room in the events
of John 13 (and presumably the whole of the last supper).

A reminder in scripture -
Every mother bears an echo of Mary -
eternity in her vessel growing,
part of creation with the Creator...
but, oh, the wonder, the power,
from the moment of conception -
Before He was laid in the manger -
before His sacrifice, love,
the intimacy of incarnation
Christ in that secret place,
Held in Mary’s blessed womb...
 
Mary became God’s servant,
her life, her body, her all,
became a holy vessel, but
far more than her womb,
carrying the seed of Jesus,
her place in this world,
Mother Mary, our matriarch
holding eternity closely
the life growing within her,
Christ, the Messiah, the Son,
The immortal became flesh...
 
The kernel of heaven was within her
growing within her vessel
in secret, in silence, living,
God’s holy seed, the Christ...
The Creator, who set the stars in motion,
folded Himself into the smallest seed of humanity,
choosing fragility, choosing dependence -
Nine months of quiet, of waiting,
a heartbeat beside Mary’s own,
listening to the heartbeat of Mary,
Jesus, our risen Lord and Savior...
 
God entered creation,
inside the bounds of time,
love, living as we do, mortal,
nine months of quiet, of waiting, -
Every child before they are born,
like our risen Lord and Savior -
hearing the heartbeat of our mother,
a divine pulse beating within her flesh.
formed in silence, in secret
conscious of humanity, human,
of the world He had entered,
Broken, in need of restoration...

An oath repeated
a promise of God
there in the upper room
as darkness had come...

a mark on the power
