weapons of the parties

to beat each other down

We must remember the children

the true innocent parties;

Counting on their parents

to keep them safe,

to act as adults

Choked with Anger – part 2

Praying under my breath
in a whisper only
that they would see
the harm to the whole family
when anger guides their path
Needing somehow to forgive
to move beyond the past
to reconcile themselves to their history
so they may move together
as the parents of their kids

Our Vows on Our Hearts

Words shared together
said aloud before God
our vows written ever
on the fabric of our hearts

How can we hurt those we love(d)
petty words of hate
putting children in the middle
caught in anger’s wake

At Each First Appearance

Remembering the children
their welfare
their peace of mind
and their future
from the words of the master
a prayer for these times

These are the focus
the purview of the courts
the guidance of the master
where our hearts should be
setting aside the anger
letting their future guide our pleas

Remember the Children

Over and over
in each script read aloud
each time reminding
reminding them to focus
to think about the others
those who count on us
to ever remember the children
their lives in their hands
their parents in this life

Told by the master
a plea from their children
words to remember
to set aside their anger
in the name of their kids

“Our” children, not “Mine”
remembering their welfare
hoping their interest
will still their fighting words

Rage Stilling Me

In the court
unbelieving ears
not wanting to hear
the depth of the lies
their voice speaking
spoken aloud in public
Rage stilling me
wanting to shout out, “liar”
but instead stilling my voice
unable to speak
the words of the moment
Words of anger ringing
my ears afire again
my whole body trembling
wishing for a judgment, quickening
a day of retribution
yet silently doing my part
in the place I was put.

Airways blocked
minds clouded
eyes that cannot see
chaos of feeling
of emotion
unable to be checked
Choked with anger
unable to fathom the truth
corrosive nature of their feeling
pouring out on them

The Trees in the Cabinets

The reams and reams of paper
the trees in the cabinets
files after files
lives written down

The trees that were slaughtered
butchered and used up
the paperless office
hasn’t caught up
with our appetite yet
