Every Moment Holy – v2

Rethinking our lives
so we were challenged
what it means to worship
faith in our fiber
in every moment of life
not safe on Sunday

Every moment holy
a gift from Almighty God
a potential for service
to act as His children
humbly living as children of God
out in the world

Not for Sundays
specifically in worship
sitting in our assigned pews
within the walls of the temple;
Church as a way of life
out in the world

Until the Battle is Won

The grace of our savior
poured out in his sacrifice
his living and dying
rising from the grave

Half of the story
redemption for believers
but more to do
until the end of the age

The battle still raging
death stalking the earth
sin seeking human hearts
to turn them from God’s grace

Ours as his servants
as children of the living God
to follow Christ’s commandment
to spread the message to all

Our duty holy
the consequence great
redemption for each believer
but only if we believe

More to do in the mean time
while we walk the earth below
before the end of the age
while the battle rages

Bringing more disciples for the Lord
a greater harvest for God
sharing his message of love
bringing more children to him

A New Day, Each Day

Each day, a new day
something new happening
God alive in the world
walking the earth with us
Changing lives, moving people
touching hearts anew
new disciples of Christ
followers joining with us
in the work of restoration
God building up his people
to share the heavenly message
God’s love supreme
his grace boundless
bringing us back to him
New each morning
a new thing already begun
we are to join him
until the battle is won.

Real Trust in God

A challenge from the pulpit
not even discernment
more fundamental than that
real trust in God

Christ’s commission to us
not to make more members
rather to make disciples
true followers of God

Our focus changing
from the bricks of our building
to our neighbors around us
not to our place of worship
but the people on the street

Rethinking our mission
if we truly believe
leaving our old ways
focusing beyond our doors.

Followers of Christ

the cleanest definition
what church should mean to us
the followers of Jesus
doing our master’s work

going as he commanded
baptizing the people
changing their lives in believing
making them into disciples

by our witness
our action in the world
going from sheep to shepherds
heeding his loving word

to the ends of the earth
as long as this age lasts
while we have breath sharing
the love of God for all

following Jesus
the Son of God
walking with him
all the days of our lives

those following Christ
the people together

journeying with God
going where he leads
the sheep of his flock

Sharing the Verb of God

Nothing so cute as our church
the people of the faith
all of us children of God
sharing the message
but not in static words
in the life of Christ
those who proceeded
those who follow
all of us claiming
part of the divine work

Sharing the verb of God
in loving us so much
sending Christ to the earth
taking up his cross
descended from on high
from the water rising
commissioned by the dove
following the Spirit’s guiding

Faithful in his walking
working for the kingdom
offering lessons, healing
setting the prisoners free
all of us a legacy
the birthing of the faithful
the rising of Christ
and the flames of Pentecost
going as we were sent
walking on the water
sharing the verb of God
wherever we may go

&
There seem to be many variations to this main quote by R. Buckminster Fuller
Here are some of them that I have found:
“God is a verb, not a noun proper or improper.”
“God is a verb, not a noun.”
“God is a verb.”
“God, to me, it seems, is a verb not a noun, proper or improper.”
“Here is God's purpose - for God, to me, it seems, is a verb not a noun, proper or improper.”
“I live on Earth at present, and I don't know what I am. I know that I am not a category. I am not a thing — a noun. I seem to be a verb, an evolutionary process — an integral function of the universe.” R Buckminster Fuller, from, “I Seem to Be a Verb” (1970)
“God is a Verb”, By R. Buckminster Fuller, in Whole Earth Catalog”, Fall 1968

A New Truth

The new thing happening
deep in our hearts
not new members
but each of us transformed

Being fed on Sunday
breathing in your world
in fellowship together
in your temple courts

That we may go
out for Monday
the days of our lives
in service to our God

Our lives different
from having entered in
leaving there renewed
as children of God

Sharing your message
in how we walk in life
not only on Sundays
but all the days of the week

New Things

The challenge of the pastor
asking us a series of questions
silence in the first answer
to “what new things do you see God doing?”
only later a couple of responses
the lift for our building
and new workers
for the nursery and
for our fried dough booth

On more reflection
what would we offer
on turning his question
into a verb
church in action
in what we say and do
in all of our days
not in formal functions
but how we live our lives

No Excuse, All are Gifted

Cutting off our answers
what we may be thinking
our pastor reminding us
chiding our thoughts
all of us gifted
given gifts by the Spirit
each of us able
to do the work of church
bringing Christ’s blessing
in the way we live on earth

The Way of Church

The way of church changing
once more returning
to some of the truths
of our origins
house churches
and missions
going out into the world

Not led by the pastor
the patriarch in the pulpit
preaching from the top down
being told what to do
led by the congregants
by each person’s calling
each one led by the Spirit
to live the verb of church

In Every Second

Acting as church
worship as our lives
in every second
praise in each moment
in all we say and do

Looking for a model
to the life of Christ
love guiding his steps
in each one
true to God’s plan
his calling in his life
in humbleness, sublime

His Vision Described

Standing at the lectern
defining our church
his vision described
how we should live

Moving beyond tradition
how worship should be done
led by the pastor
now changing the way

The old ways past
a new thing begun
church in the way we live
a verb defining our lives

Driven by the People

The new things happening
a change in the way of church
authentic to the calling
not guided by the leaders
faithful to his command
to go to the nations
making disciples, not members

Needing the pastors
the committees, the structures
to give way to passion
the calling of the Spirit
to let go of direction
the people leading the way
no longer working
direction from above

Something to Do

Church
not something
but something to do,
informing others
of God’s love,
his grace poured out
washing over all of us

Church
how to walk in the world
that we would be,
more than to love
to live in worship
ever praising God
in how we walk on the path

Church
going into the world
walking, more to do
helping, caring,
going to our neighbor
hurting, lying in the road
a stranger, truly our brother
our sister, our children
going to where they are

Church
the breathing in
the breathing out
worship on each end

Fed that we may feed
blessed that we may be a blessing
coming in that we may go out

Serving beyond our doors
Christ alive in us
out into the world
to the ends of the earth

A New Definition of Church

Following Christ
focused only on Him
joining our brother
in worship
in walking, in ministry
doing God’s work
in the world, alive
going out, outside the walls
church a verb, not a building

A new definition of church
outside the walls
rethinking formality, structure
the rigidity of form
over its function,
its purpose as the body
the living body of Christ

A verb, an action,
what we were to do,
from the very beginning
going, to the nations
not bound by the walls
going to the people
