imagining the palette of God

Looking at the sunset

above the mountain

trying to describe with words

that are feeble, inadequate

(that’s an understatement)

Imagining the palette of God

not limited by what I know as color

painting in fragrance, in emotion,

in temperatures, in seasons,

in cold and in heat, in motion,

in liquids, nothing so static, limited,

as what I know as color

imagining the palette of God

in words I can relate to

a daunting task, at best,

something to be experienced

to be lived out loud

From the whisper of God.

Slices of me

Flesh and nerve

Risk of rejection

Laid open, raw;

Vulnerable, exposed,

With each utterance

Each sharing,

Each telling.

Perfect prose

Escapes me.

But they are me

Each one and each word;

Now, as I write

Untested and Exposed to

Animus, ridicule

Their misunderstanding.

Some Word Deeper – v3

Some word deeper, poetry, living
written on my heart, alive within me
not thoughts of my rational brain, my reason
an emotion deep inside, abiding

Colors, words bubbling up, imagery
overflowing, pouring out, like water
gushing from deep within me, afire
sparked by a feeling, passion, urgent

An urging, a calling, seeds, stones
sharing them with the world, the wind
casting seeds, stones in the seas, the ocean
ripples, growth, on other shores, unseen

Some word deeper, more meaning
not by my rational mind, controlling
welling up from deep within, overflowing
usurping, taking complete control

Nature

The beauty of the ordered world
the turn of the growing leaf
the whisper in the wind
bright sunshine on my face

Touching the wet earth
the peat, or salt water
the rush of senses
in the sight, the sound
the smell, yes the taste
vivid and alluring

So much when I ponder
try to conjure
the meaning of nature
and essence to explain

Fleeting like the gossamer dew
ancient like the mountains
growing like the shoots rising
up from winter’s rest

All a flood of thoughts,
of images, emotions
living on the earth, in nature
each of us part of God’s creation
