What do I fear,
Why do I doubt,
to confess, to repent, to turn,
to surrender to God…
 
I hear God’s whisper,
The Spirit’s voice,
“Trust Me, my Son,
How I love you so…”
 
Listening to my demons,
to my childish fears,
When I doubt You Love,
When I do not believe…
 
The same child within me,
Who was broken and hurt,
Reluctantly clinging
to sorrow, to bittersweet,
the ruts of my life…
 
Come beside me, oh God,
Reach down to save me,
I am struggling, I am drowning,
I am losing my life…
 
I hear Your whisper,

a quick fix, a moment of healing,
a cortisone shot to numb the pain
chaos, lives spinning out of control
needing recission, surgery,
a restructuring within, completely,
to achieve purpose, to experience healing
to have our hearts restored…
 
grief far deeper, needing action
giving up our lives, our wills,
reversing direction, turning
from ourselves, our flesh
to the calling of God, our Father,
running out to meet us,
to welcome us home…
 
only in grieving deeply
for our rebellion, our shame,
our turning away from ourselves
can we receive redemption
within our hearts, our spirits,
The sacrifice of Christ
that redeems our souls…

in my fear, my rebellion
taking the place of God
refusing to surrender,
to climb up out of the ruts
to repent, to change direction
to confess my failures
my need for a Savior…
 
stuck in my flesh

claiming the illusion of control
when that is the Devil
being drawn to destruction
needing to confess, to repent,
to surrender my autonomy
to make God my God

the arc of our chaos
our struggles within
creating false gods, idols,
falling into patterns of sin…
 
our lives become complacent,
complicit in our deaths,
Every single sin is fatal
kindling the wrath of God…
 
to be healed,
to find wholeness,
redemption from our brokenness
We must repent, we must turn,
We must give our lives, our wills to God…

an ache deep within me
staring at my pain
my sin, my brokenness,
wandering in the wilderness,
lost, far from God…
 
quarrying deep within me
the depth of my hurt
the way sin has hurt me
how I have sinned in my flesh,
how I have got in the way…
 
confessing my estrangement
my turning from God
creating of me an idol
worshiping my wants
not letting God get in the way…
 
now, the battle turns,
on the essential,
“Will I turn from the flesh,
Will I turn my life, my will,
My all unto God…”

You raise me from the waters
the rage of my struggle
the chaos of my brokenness…
The way of all flesh…
 
out of the pit You saved me
You set me on the waters…
I walk with my risen Lord
even though I am broken…
He is my eternal hope…

to turn from my wickedness
into my purpose, my calling,

This promise of holy scripture
this ancient word of protection
words I know deeply, richly,
for You have been present with me
in the pit, on the mountaintops…
 
But deep within my spirit,
from when I was a young boy,
an ache, a pain I carry
that defines my life’s choices
my path of brokenness…
 
I did not believe You, Lord,
I felt lost, forsaken,
I did not feel You with me
protecting me when I needed You
when I was attacked…
 
I now believe the ancient words,
but, chains, pain has cost me greatly,
all of my sin, my bad choices,
rooted in the lie that You left me
alone in my brokenness…

unlike a year ago, holding…
Changes on the battlefield…
The tide is changing, rising,
their own munitions production,
the strikes the enemy cannot stop…
 
No longer defensive,
caught waiting, flat-footed…
Building their own security
their own native power…
Taking the fight to the enemy,
more than Russia can stop…
 
Momentum is changing in the battle
redefining a war of attrition…
Deep strikes in their rear…
A rising tide of judgment
against their war crimes…
Timid allies galvanized

A turn of the calendar’s pages…
Resolve in the face of terror, evil,
Determination, disregarding betrayal,
Unified at all costs, rising as one…
A people, a nation together,
Despite everything, standing,
Knowing what they have faced,
Resilient because they must…
 
Despite everything standing strong,
Determined to persevere, to achieve,
Hope in the struggle, the maelstrom,
Never backing down, defiant, resourceful…
Life continues always, together,
Standing, kneeling as one people,
United within their territory, their nation,

every time I was unfaithful,
every single one of my sins
has the power to condemn me…
 
this one sin was enough
each sin was fateful
even one sin I committed
sent Christ to my cross…
 
not a lifetime of rebellion
disobedience to Your Law
every single one of my sins
kindled the wrath of God…
 
Christ went to the cross
for the one sin I just committed
Christ would go to the cross
for this one sin alone…

when I have not felt You, oh God…
 
Great has been my suffering,
my pain, my shame before me,
I have heard the mocking crowd,
I have been a man of derision…
 
Draw near to me, Lord,
Let Your Spirit touch me,
May I feel Your touch,
May I know Your healing…
 
For I have been far off,
a prodigal in my wasteland,

God, I confess my greatest sin,
My sin against You alone
I did not trust You to protect me,
I did not believe You loved me,
that You have given me an eternal home…
 
I took my fears, the pain I carried,
I made them my home, my gods,
idols of my own creation
While I was hiding, I was naked,
I took Your rightful place…
 
God, against You alone I have sinned
My sins are ever before me
they have been my chains,
my shackles, stones I have carried,
I have let my pain, my fears
control my very life…
 
I pray You will hear me,
that You will set me free…
How I long to serve You,

We say we are sinners
that Christ died for us
that Christ put on our sin, our shame,
When He climbed the rugged cross…
 
But we soften the blow, the hurt,
speaking in generalities about sin
a muted sense of the weight
What Christ carried to the cross…
 
Christ was killed for each individual sin
every one of the awful moments
every single decision we make
Was put upon Him on the cross…
 
Not a clean indictment, simple,
but pages and pages of charges
the endless sins of the flesh
The weight Christ carried to the cross…
 
I confess every one of my sins
those I have forgotten too
all the ways my Savior saved me
When He climbed the rugged cross for me…
