Every angle is a new story, emergent,

a new revelation, epiphany, insight,
like facets of a diamond, perfect,
each beautiful, revealing,
Another piece of you...

Allure, power, grace, enduring,
a seduction, a whisper, calling,
a new country to discover,
to cherish,  to explore evermore,
in every turn of your neck...

The camera loves you, sweetheart,
capturing tiny segments only,
a lifetime in each moment,
a new country to explore,
in every turn of your neck...

The arch of your full eyebrows,
above the mysteries of your eyes
the perfection of your lips,
your strong jawline, your smile,
you set mortal hearts alight...

Sounds of Scribbles – v5

Echoing sounds of scribbles,
Jots of thoughts in my journal,
Seeing some words crossed out,
Others inserted, added, forced,
How does editing sound, frenetic;
Illegible words, random thoughts,
Scratching out the rhyme,
The rhythm, fighting the meter…
 
Murmurs on the pages,
Lines through the jetsam,
The flotsam of thought,
Like word balloons, crossed out…
Words of motion, precision,
Snapping to attention,
Coming into being, alive,
On the printed page…
 
Catching myself in mid-thought,
Erasures like sandpaper.
Maybe a planer, deeper,
Milling raw oak into boards;
Fighting the knots in my prose,
Seeking to capture a moment,
Conjure an image, gossamer,
On the written page…

not rhyme or meter,
but movement, an urging,
onward, to push further…
 
a rhythm, movement, motion,
energy, words coming together,
a song, a whisper,
hope, a prayer, melodic,
capturing words already written…

a purpose held, revealed,
truth in the speaking,

by Roberta Woods –
“Love it!  You've captured the essence of writing not as a discipline but as joy.  And it is because it is pure joy (the agony comes later during revision) it is not a discipline in the sense of having rigid edges.  All doing from joy is a gift to the doer as well as the recipient whether cooking, writing, gardening or any other activity.  My joy activities are writing and carpentry.  All the rest require me to have discipline to get them done. –Roberta”

– About the process of writing as merely writing down the words, suggested by Roberta Woods earlier in the day. I see her point, based on the way my writing often comes quickly. Even when I edit it as I write, it is more to get it right/write. We had been talking about “one-book wonders” and had segwayed into a discussion of how she writes daily and how, when she starts writing a story, it often is prolific.

Flash of joy, moment,
inspiration, epiphany
a sudden awareness
On the page before me
As I write,
 
Seeing the words appear
out of the air, the gossamer,
Knowing they are right,
Clear, concise
 
An Embodiment,
captured quickly
only momentarily,
Of mind’s eye
and fleeting thought…

“Love it!  You've captured the essence of writing not as a discipline but as joy.  And it is because it is pure joy (the agony comes later during revision) it is not a discipline in the sense of having rigid edges.  All doing from joy is a gift to the doer as well as the recipient whether cooking, writing, gardening or any other activity.  My joy activities are writing and carpentry.  All the rest require me to have discipline to get them done. –Roberta”

– About the process of writing as merely writing down the words, suggested by Roberta Woods earlier in the day. I see her point, based on the way my writing often comes quickly. Even when I edit it as I write, it is more to get it right/write. We had been talking about “one-book wonders” and had segwayed into a discussion of how she writes daily and how, when she starts writing a story, it often is prolific.

Rewriting – v4

Editing, changing

New inspiration, perspiration,

Revision, refocus

Capturing ether anew

Wanting to give the words life

Wanting, yearning

Seeing the beauty

precision, perfection,

Magic in this prose

Just beyond arm’s reach

Cut and paste, new language

Sharpening the writing

The metaphor, the analogy

Teasing the whites higher

Letting go of the old

Pulling edits in, ripping chaff out

Not as a criticism of myself

Working to fix, to perfect

Not really abandoning

The inspiration preceding

Creating new, now

Losing voice, gaining power

Gaining strength, within,

Struggle for balance

New eyes needed still

Structure and time

Dig into it, rip, patch,

Next time better, richer,

More fully revealing

The beauty within

Rough-Hewn Stone - v3

All of us on a journey

with Christ on our side

the Spirit indwelling

pure and perfect

rough-hewn stone

on the outside

needing to be made holy,

Working ever

to smooth the rough edges

to walk closer to Him

following our Savior

all the days of our lives

nearer to God

so we pray to be.
