possessed by some demon
different than us
maybe not dressed right
Late into the night
people coming to the curbside
looking for something
out of the pile of trash
Urged by the writer
considering these people
our brothers and sisters
sitting next to us in the pews
What would we do
if they sat down beside us
different than us
some possessed still by demons
needing a place too
in the family of God

Freed of His Demons
The voice of Christ enough
healing him completely
his spirit no longer tortured
Christ speaking, commanding
and he was freed of his demons
Offering hope in his hometown
healing for the people
witnessing there
to the power of Jesus
restored to his community
sharing God’s love

On Level Ground
Each of us journeying
seeking perfection
our walk more holy
following our Lord
Each of us sinners
failing to follow
the commands of our savior
the love of God
Each of us redeemed
by faith in Jesus
believing in him
who died on the cross
Each of us worthy
part of the body
each a servant
of our living God
Each of us called
to love our neighbor
to offer God’s love
to heal their brokenness
Each of us equal
standing on level ground
none better than another
all are children of God
Each of us charged
to stand up for justice
to speak in love
to humbly do our part

What a wonderful moment
all of us equal
all falling short
needing the Christ
Yet all of us worthy
by the blood of his sacrifice

Living freed, redeemed
walking with our savior
no longer yoked
with the shackles of the law
the bit removed
the blinders taken off
able to walk freely
in the way of faith alone
Liberated by our savior
who walked through the fire
laying down his life

Humbly, As a Sinner
Coming to our savior
coming on our knees
humbly, as a sinner
approaching the rugged cross
Knowing our stain
that his blood washed away
washing his feet with our tears
an expression of our love
Humbly, as a sinner
painfully aware of my guilt
rising because he freed me
from the weight of the law
Lifted from my mourning
the sack cloth removed
going, preaching the good news
to the ends of the world

Hobbled in Our Walk
The judgment of the law
never measuring up
the burden of guilt
heavy on my mind
Hobbled in our walk
the law a stumbling block
reminding me of my sin
my feet made of clay
Freed from the stocks
the chains broken away
Christ came into my life
changing me here today
Each day I awake
rising on eagles’ wings
wanting to share his love
freedom in his grace
that we will truly live.

Through the Holy Spirit
the living presence of Christ
dwelling deep within me
enabling me to change
Empowered by my faith
in the calling of God
not by my own self
in abiding by the law
Walking with the shepherd
a suave for my trembling heart
a balm for eternity
leading me to change my way
to humbly serve my God

Freed from Our Guardian
Emancipated by our faith
no longer under the law
by Christ’s great sacrifice
we are freed from our guardian
able to now see God
The chains broken
by the revelation of Christ
the good news come to earth
making us right with God
Only in following
in believing in Christ
liberated in our walk
freed from the yoke of the law
yoked with Christ alone

The Bread of His Presence
Not up on the altar
set apart, in the temple
far from the maddening roar
the world, our daily lives
Close beside us
the bread of his presence
the daily bread, our brother
always close at hand
Walking with us
the Spirit does impart
the living bread of heaven
giving us our comfort
proof of his abiding love
