our journey to the manger – v4

Each year, in this season, this moment,
with the holy couple, with the seekers,
we join with all other pilgrims,
the Magi, following His star
seeking the Christ-child…

Rekindling memory, connection,
our journey to the manger, epiphany,
the coming of Christ, to His holy birth,
in awe and wonder, bringing our gifts,
praying for His return, as promised by God…

where is God in all of this

where is God in all of this

where is God in all of this

this chaos, this madness

how can this be God’s plan

for our people, our nation-state

where is God in all of this

this hurting, division

how can this be God’s plan

how can God let this happen

how can God let this happen

like the words of the psalmist

“My God, my God,

why have you forsaken me?,

our laments the same,

“how can God let this happen;

how can a loving God

allow such evil, such pain?”

we struggle, we cry out

for answers, understanding

failing to trust, to believe

in God’s infinite goodness

why Lord, why

why Lord, why

the lament, the anguish

the seeking to understand

“why Lord, why?”,

do these things happen

where are things

so out of hand

“why Lord, why?”,

we shout into the ether

into the cosmos, the air

not waiting for answers

not at peace in our spirits

not at peace in the land
