Creatures of Light – v3

We will see Christ
just as He is
creatures of light
under our skin
when He is revealed
we will be pure,
as He is pure
creatures of light
shimmering brilliance
life reassured

Rice Paper Blossoms – v5

Dying crocuses
glorious in their falling
becoming translucent, transparent
in the mid-day sun

Like rice paper blossoms
or blooms of thin phyllo dough
drying ever so gracefully
at the foot of the cross

Focus on Jesus
on our captain

Snow in the Air – v3

Snow in the air, dancing, whirling,
a scent, a fragrance heavy
long before the first flakes
started their long fall from the heavens
snow in the feel, the smell,
the texture of the air
feeling the falling barometer
the shift in the weather

Falling lightly at first, awhile
I stood at the sink, washing,
mesmerized, watching
their dance downward
Go upstairs, roust the girls,
hear the excitement, the joy
at the first real snowfall

Accumulating white, flake by flake
on the ground, the cars,
still quiet snow, light and airy
a film of white, cell by cell
cleaning the world
in white

Jesus the Christ – v2

Choosing Jesus
the Christ, the Messiah
the Son of the living God
not Barabbas, the world

Him will I follow
leaving my possessions
turning from the world
following my Lord

Taking up my cross
the calling from within
listening when the voice
inside me calls me out

Out of my comfort
my experience, my place
taking me, going
wherever I am led

Arousing Their Anger – v2

The righteous, the leaders
in the things that He said
their power crumbling
as the people came to believe
palms at His feet

Arousing their anger
Christ in Jerusalem
now in the Temple
questioning their faith

Blind to the truth
the Messiah in their midst
only seeing the threat
the coming of the storm

Holding onto their power
paying a horrible cost
siding with Caesar
judging Emmanuel guilt
the lamb upon the cross

Set Free While He Was Sentenced – v2

Barabbas and Jesus
Sons of the Father
standing before Caesar
Pilate only the proxy
representing Roman, power
the crowd, the mob shouting
“give us Barabbas”

a common criminal set free
to foment insurrection
while the king was sentenced
Death to the Messiah
God, Emmanuel
the Savior before them
choosing Death
