String of Pearls – v2

Foggy morning
On the Vineyard
In Aquinnah
Wet chair, hot coffee
Sip in the heat
Shake the daze

Camera and film
At the ready
Over my shoulder; let’s go
Sandals snap as I walk
In the early morning
Before the island awakes

Misty morning
Silent witness
Full of promise
For a skilled watcher
Moving stalker
Of moment and place

Wet green
Color scheme
Lush, summer
Looking for a web
Adorned with moisture
Ready to pose

A string of pearls
There before me
Hovered before a backdrop
A perfect set up
Bowed by the wait
Of the night

A long cord
Tacky to hold the drops
As dew was conjured in the dark;
My reflection in each as I approached
To steal the scene
With close-up lens

Centered and balanced
Enlarged and framed
Hovering now
On my wall
To conjure the moment
On that path
Years ago

The Sand in My Sandals – v2

The grit under my feet
the feel of the weight lifted
in each step I take forward
there is sand in my sandals

The dirt, the dust of this place
The sun-baked soil, the warmth
carried as I walk, as I journey
as I seek to serve the Lord

All of us, missionaries in the world
sent as they were sent, going,
to do His work, to spread His message
to heal in His redeeming name

Which is the Holy Ground – v4

Which is the holy ground, when is the ground holy
a place to take off my sandals, to touch,
to walk barefoot on holy ground

We miss so much, limiting ourselves, stagnant,
if we do not see the holy in our midst, surrounding us,
everyday grace, ordinary, real, right before our eyes

All the ground is holy, sacred, a gift of the Creator;
Feel the rich earth, the hard ground,
the rock beneath our bare feet.

Walk, run, play, kneel on the holy ground,
in the innumerable sacred spaces,
in the creation all around us

Ignited with Fire – v4

Timid followers, disciples in the spirit
sharing the words of power, of truth,
hope of the Savior, transformed by the Spirit
ignited by the fire of God’s love

Infused with the Spirit’s authority
steeled and changed forever
preaching to the ends of the earth
to Jew and Gentile, slave and free

All were to hear the message
of the grace of God, of life,
freely given, as if by flames
alighting on each one of us

and quote attributed to Corrie ten Bloom,
“I have a glove here in my hand.  The glove cannot do anything by itself, but when my hand is in it, it can do many things.  True, it is not the glove, but my hand in the glove that acts.  We are gloves.  It is the Holy Spirit in us who is the hand, who does the job.  We have to make room for the hand so that every finger is filled.”

Dunes - v4

Coming upon a pristine moment
An old weathered section of snow fencing
half buried in the lee of the dune
its gray skin gnarled by wind and water;
Saw grass and beach plum blossoms
intertwined with the rusted wire
holding the old slats of the fence.

Flip flops and sandals
lined up along the path
leading to the Atlantic;
Warm white sand drifted
mirroring the swells and troughs
undulating offshore,
living under La Luna’s spell.
