the Independence of America,

a hope not yet realized,

a promise unfulfilled.

 

words of mettle,

of hope, of aspiration

a hope not yet realized,

our history subordinated.

 

enslaved people,

many nations subjugated,

a hope not yet realized,

at the time of our Independence.

 

truth telling, a fair reading,

the long march continues,

a hope not yet realized,

our history transformed.

 

a clear-eyed reading

of the words, their promise,

a hope not yet realized,

so many tomorrows.

 

an idea, a dream

of Martin, of so many others,

a hope not yet realized,

under the weight of oppression.

 

some steps forward,

civil rights laws, court cases,

a hope not yet realized,

fighting to not go backward.

 

some much more to change,

to achieve that idea, that dream,

a hope not yet realized,

will it be in our lifetimes?

We must #fight for the #dream, the #idea of #America – v4

We are not a nation but a vision, an aspiration as a people,

from many countries, many lands, together as one nation,

living into our calling, our creed, our hope;

We are not a country but a journey, a quest,

a striving to achieve the dream that must be.

 

We must fight for the dream, the cause, the idea of America,

the hope that has buoyed us, the words on those pages,

the mettle of that moment in Philadelphia, their courage,

the blood on the battlefields, the striving for opportunity,

for greater equality, for real justice for us all.

 

We are not a nation but a melting pot, a tapestry, a salad, a quilt,

a people, fired in the crucible, forged together as one,

with that one hope, that one dream, America,

that quest, that one goal of that brighter future

when we are all equal and free.

 

We must fight for the dream, the idea of America,

the cause of equality, real justice for all our people,

for the dream is most certainly under attack,

from without, from within, the lies, the propaganda

usurping the stage, the microphone, the media platforms.

 

We are not a nation, but a hope, still that bright city on a hill,

but only if we fight, if we stand in the watch towers,

if we defend the words of our Declaration, our Constitution,

if we deny the lies, the falsehoods, giving the enemies power,

seeking to take the idea, the dream of America away.

We must #fight for the #dream, the #idea of #America – v3

We are not a nation but a vision, an aspiration as a people,

from many countries, many lands, together as one;

We are not a country but a journey, a quest,

a striving to achieve the dream that must be.

 

We must fight for the dream, the idea of America,

the hope that has buoyed us, the words on those pages,

the blood on the battlefields, the striving for opportunity,

for greater equality, for real justice for all.

 

We are not a nation but a melting pot, a tapestry, a salad, a quilt,

a people, fired in the crucible, forged together as one,

with that one hope, that one dream,

that quest, that one goal, of that brighter future.

 

We must fight for the dream, the idea of America,

for the dream is most certainly under attack,

from without, from within, the lies, the propaganda

usurping the stage, the microphone, the media platforms.

 

We are not a nation, but a hope, that bright city on a hill,

but only if we fight, if we stand in the watch towers,

if we deny the lies, the falsehoods, giving the enemies power,

seeking to take the idea, the dream of America away.

We must #fight for the #dream, the #idea of #America – v2

 

We are not a nation but a vision, an aspiration as a people,

from many countries, many lands, together as one;

We are not a country but a journey, a quest,

a striving to achieve the dream that must be.

 

We must fight for the dream, the idea of America,

the hope that has buoyed us, the words on those pages,

the blood on the battlefields, the striving for opportunity,

for greater equality, for real justice for all.
