We must fight for the dream, the idea of America

Not a nation but a vision, an aspiration as a people

from many countries, many lands;

Not a country but a journey, a quest,

a striving to achieve the dream that must be.

 

We must fight for the dream, the idea of America,

the hope that has buoyed us, the words on the page,

the blood on the battlefields, the striving for justice

for greater equality, for real justice for all.

 

A melting pot, a tapestry, a salad, a quilt,

a people, forged together, as one,

with that one hope, that one dream,

that quest, that goal, of that brighter future.

 

We must fight for the dream, the idea of America,

for it most certainly is under attack,

from without, from within, the lies, the propaganda

usurping the stage, the microphone, the media platforms.

 

Not a nation, but a hope, that bright city on a hill,

but only if we fight, if we stand in the watch towers,

if we deny the lies, the terrorists, the enemies,

seeking to take the idea, the dream of America away.
