long before they read the Gospel...
if they ever do read God’s word
written in holy scripture
in their time on earth...
 
You may be the only Christ they see
You might be their Gospel -
How you walk in this life
is far more important
than any words you speak...
 
Do not quench the Spirit,
the good news of scripture,
with your words and actions...
Put on Christ daily
as you live out your life...
 
Be present, mindful,
of these words of truth...
 
People will read your gospel
long before they read the Gospel...
if they ever do read God’s word
written in holy scripture
in their time on earth...

From the dust God formed us,
breathing life into our days…
Created in His image,
to reflect His holy ways…
 
Do people see His likeness
in the paths our footsteps trace…
in the mercy we show others,
in the kindness on our face…
 
God is righteous and eternal,
pure in justice, full of grace…
yet we walk as fragile vessels,
bearing scars of fallen race…
 
Still He calls us to His purpose,
to shine light where shadows live…
showing love through humble actions,
through the grace we freely give…
 
Do people see God’s likeness
as we walk this earthly span…
do they glimpse His light and mercy
through the witness of our hands…
 
For the world will read our living
more than words our voices say…
may His image shine within us
as we walk His narrow way…

God made us in His image
to be a Light to this world…
 
Do people see His likeness
in our words, in our actions…
God is righteous, loving,
while we are broken flesh…
 
We are to be God’s image,
His Light in Creation…
Others are watching our actions
more than the words we repeat…
 
Do people see God’s image
when they look upon our journey…
God has anointed us righteous
to shine His Light in this world…

You were never mine to hold onto

You were never mine to hold onto
your image on the flickering screen
ready to dissolve in an instant,
held only in my memory,
wanting the moment to remain
to hold on a little longer,
but it was never meant to be…
 
How it hurt me to press the button,
to release you back to the ether
but that was the term, the condition,
for that moment, that instant,
to see you as you were then,
when that image was captured
when I asked, but I do not know...

You were not mine to hold onto

Seeking to #describe #Color – v2 #poetry #writingpoetry

In so many poems, too many to number,

seeking to describe color, to explain,
nuance, variations, shades, and hues,
textures even, weight, and wetness…
 
Speaking in language of senses, of truth, finality,
when there is no anchor, whimsy only,
no scale to measure, no frame of reference,
no gage, no wheel, really, nothing to reference…
 
So much is subjective, proprietary language,
a palette for merchandise, another for nature,
living color on a canvas, on living sculpture,
in living things, creatures, in the natural world…
 
In shapes, alive in the moment, my experience,
in woods, on the seashore, in frozen images,
too many to number, striving, yearning,
to make the color, the words just right…

Seeking to define a #Color

In so many poems, too many to number,
seeking to define a color, to describe,
nuance, the variations, shades, hues,
textures even, weight, and wetness,
when there is no anchor, whimsy only,
no scale to measure, no frame of reference,
no gage, no wheel, nothing to count against…
 
So much subjective, proprietary language,
a palette for merchandise, another for nature,
living color on a canvas, on living sculpture,
in shapes, alive in the moment, experienced,
in the woods, on the seashore, in images,
too many to number, striving, yearning,
to get the color, the words just right…

the strings of gossamer – v7

She sat with Jesus, her beloved,
held within her loving arms,
the crucified body of Christ
our Messiah, Mary’s baby boy.
 
Her gaze given a new focus,
ensnared in strings of gossamer,
obscuring the body of Christ
in the words of the spider.
 
Speaking in lines that she drew,
painted on the face of the Madonna;
Her visage of sadness set off,
in the meshed strings of gossamer.

A glass full

A glass full, nowhere near empty,
of the wine, the water,
the sailboat, the shoreline,
the whole sumptuous tableau.
 
Times by the water,
azure skies above me,
loves beside me, cherished,
as I strive to drink it all in.
 
Time stands still, perfect,
at least for this moment,
presence, present, magic,
wanting to be nowhere else.
 
Memory sweet, melting,
bleeding within me,
moments, rich treasure,
to drink again and again...

Roses of Crepe Paper

Roses of Crepe Paper

Drying, fading

changing texture

becoming paper

holding their shape.

Roses of crepe paper

in the vase before me

not silk, not rice paper

softer, stiffer than that.

The bouquet, each blossom,

holding life still, but

progressing toward paper

a permanent state.

Soon dying, fading

changing texture

roses of crepe paper

to hold, to touch.
