His Radical Love – v2

Somehow we forget
the depth of God’s grace,
His radical love changing
the face of the earth

We are to start with empathy,
seeing ourselves in our neighbor,
offering love in Christ’s name
in service and grace

We must take on their struggle,
honoring their humanness,
forgiving even our enemy
going the way of the cross

A Forest of Fig Trees - v2

An orchard, a forest
endless, continuous
the gardener pleading
that they, that we
would not be cut down
that God would
give us more time

The gardener offering
more than His prayers
laying down His life
that the forest would live
given a chance
to bear fruits for God
a harvest for His kingdom

Washing His Hands – v7

Can you see him, through history, a specter,
a soul yet wandering, between heaven and hell,
over and over he must have washed his hands
trying to remove the stain, the tattoo of innocent blood
blood he allowed to be spilled, blood of a King
given for His people, those who knew His name
whose oil was kept full, who knew more than anything else
they needed His gift, His boundless mercy, His ultimate sacrifice

His wife knew too, something was wrong, something very wrong
to shed this pure, clean blood, untainted by human sin;
A human life lived godly, that should have been proof enough
especially to those vacillating, questioning, twelve disciples -
How could they go through three years of teaching, of learning,
of watching Him, His actions, His compassion, His humanness,
His divinity, His pure love, His sinlessness, and not knowing

He was God; how could Pilate let the rabble dictate the death
of an innocent life, a man that did not threaten Rome
to sacrifice, to hang on the cross, instead of Barrabas. . .
Washing his hands, no that didn’t truly clear his stain
that he must have carried, he must carry still, yet, unfinished
a soul yet wandering, between heaven and hell,
like the Master knew, and wrote so well

washing his hands – 2 – v5

He was ritually washing
an art to the cleansing
but not as effective
to be seen, witnesses,
washing his hands
absolving himself of the actions
before the people, the leaders
before the Son of Man

Telling them, in the ritual,
as if to say, “I am not guilty”,
in washing his hands, saying,
“His blood is on your hands;
I have been washed, I am clean,
the stain is not on me”;
yet the stain of blood is still there
for all eternity

the stain on Pilate’s hands – v3

Pilate’s wife warned him
but he was caught in position
a trap of his own making
taking on this part.

He knew all too well
no matter the washing
the stain still there
on his hands remaining.

Covered with innocent blood
the stain of conviction
Pilate’s guilt remaining
in Christ going to the cross.

The stain on Pilate’s hands
never to come clean, truly,
His guilt remains
and our guilt with him.

All too present,
an open wound weeping
unhealed, remaining,
within my flesh, my spirit.

“What did I do?”, he asks,
and we join him, “What did I do?”,
when I crucified Christ,
when my sin convicted Him.
