You have given me the best

You have given me the best
More than I can imagine
A family, a home
Loving arms to come home to
Support and challenge
To strive for my better self;
I thank you and love you
From the depths, my heart.

In Complete Fulfillment

All that scripture foretold
all of the Master’s Plan
as his life had been scripted
written in the Word

In complete fulfillment
every letter, every thought
Christ in complete submission
holy, to the Lord

“It is finished,”
said our master
hanging on
the rugged cross

Submitting
his life completely
paying our
awful cost

For this
we sing
our sweet
Hosannas! to
our God and King

Rising up
in resurrection
we may rise
to sing with Thee

Preaching in His Hometown

Hard for them to fathom
the transformation in him
after the landing of the dove
rising from the water

The time in the desert
in fasting and temptation
tested to his limits
but ready for ministry

Preaching in his hometown
speaking with power
claiming the name of servant
in the reading of the scripture

Taking on the mantle
claiming his holy name
going forth in service
fulfilling God’s holy plan

Claiming Who He Was

Christ alive
speaking with power
from the waters rising
after the time in the desert
claiming who he was
in the holy scripture
the words of the prophet
alive in their midst

This Scripture Fulfilled

Christ read the words
the ancient words of Isaiah
the carpenter no more
after the river
after his time of testing
Sitting down and stating
this scripture was fulfilled
answered in their hearing
in the lamb of God
the son come down
walking among them
the neighbor that they knew
was the Son of God
come to heal the world
to heal our brokenness

And He Sat Down

Claiming His name
God’s purpose for his life
reading the ancient prophets
the fulfillment of the Word

And he sat down
certain, in their presence
all eyes resting upon him
in wonder and disbelief

This is how he left home
going out into the world
nothing left there for him
needing to go on the road

Sealing one chapter
the majority of his life
leading on to his future
the destiny of his days

Reading the Word Aloud

In community
in their hearing
Reading the Word aloud
in the synagogue
telling his neighbors
who truly He was
Ready to go out,
into the world to serve,
to spread God’s holy message
to live out the Holy Word

With Power from Above

The ancient words
the words of the prophet
claimed by
the living Christ
Read aloud
in their presence
the truth alive
despite their unbelief

After the desert

After the desert
His time of testing
through the fire of temptation
beginning to speak

Rising there
before the congregation
the carpenter claiming
the mantle of his deity

The scriptures opened
in their presence
His neighbors unable
to believe their ears

Sent, by rejection,
His ministry beginning
the words of the prophet
come into life
