Hold my thoughts captive – v2

Lord, You know my heart,
My desire to serve You,
to turn from my wickedness,
the way of the flesh,
the chains that I carry
for the sins I have done…
 
Imprison my flesh, my mind,
Hold my thoughts captive
Anything of the world
that binds me, that holds me,
that sets me apart,
that alienates me from God…
 
Gather everything of Satan,
Bind them, Lord, for rejection,
like dead branches for the fire,
Hold my thoughts captive
Anything of my flesh
that separates me from You…

Giving freely
of our gifts, our lives

giving as the Christ

Offering richly
giving with a generous heart
lifting up our neighbors

I promise to care

God did not give
hollow words
offering Christ for all
giving his only Son
that we may live
though he was rich
becoming poor

The words, “I promise to care”,
to give when it is convenient
to offer from the change
in my purse
to let other starve
while I am rich
not what Jesus did

Manna Daily

The Lord will provide
why are we stingy
miserly with our wealth
giving us all
that we truly need
the rest to mold instead

Manna daily
for our needs
the rest to be given, shared
an offering of love
from the bounty of love
God’s to use for the work

The love given
filling our hearts
eager to share our gifts
the wealth coming
from knowing the Lord
redeemed from death by him

Only all, that is what God desires
submitting our will to his
to drink of the cup, to pick up the cross
to go so that all may live

Equality

The giving of our gifts
not to make us poor
to rise the place of all
equality in our joy
in the people of God
none to be left out
to all share grace
the bounty of love
each of us in time and space
to feel the love of God
washing over us
to feel the warmth of embrace

The Redistribution of Wealth

Not What Would Jesus Do
but what he did for us
the debate on the redistribution of wealth
answered on the cross

Even before the Passion
the decision to descend from above
though he was rich he became poor
becoming flesh like us

Coming down so others may be rich
blessed by freedom, communion
able to be reconciled to God
blessed by Christ’s true teachings

Humble, a servant, giving his all
submitting his will to God
offering himself, a sacrifice for us
taking our sin to the cross

Freed of sin, the wages of death
given new life in Christ
but called to be his disciples
to follow his path
to submit our all to God

Though he was rich became poor

The words with such power
explaining the selfless act
Christ descending from heaven
giving up his riches
becoming poor for us
giving up the crown of heaven
climbing the cross in our place
though he was rich became poor,
going to the dead for us

Through his poverty

Riches beyond our comprehension
God’s grace, His love poured down
Christ descending from heaven
to wear the thorny crown

Through his poverty
emptied of his riches, heaven
giving us salvation
by giving God his all

Christ falling
choosing to become poor
emptied of his riches
powers of heaven
giving himself over
becoming as of clay
sharing us salvation
by walking in God’s way

A Willing Gift

They gave themselves
as a gift to God
nothing held back
beyond their ability
to Christ by faith
that they be poured
a blessing to the saints
and so much more
A willing gift given
the gift of their lives
like the widow with the coins
trusting in God.

To give as you are able
ready, willingly
more than you are able
by faith trusting in God
giving richly
out of abundance
faithful to your pledge
holding nothing back
to lift up others
the work of the church
serving our neighbors
out of our love
giving richly
holding nothing back
that all will be lifted
that none will be left out
