The title of this poem may seem hubris,
or iterative at the very least to be honest,
The idea that one poem would be enough
to name the sins I have committed
in my journey, in my life…
Don’t get me wrong, I get it, fully,
I don’t have enough lines to be complete,
but I wanted to speak this into the universe
to confess my sin to God,
to not carry this any longer…
I confess my sin of disobedience,
violating commandments, too many,
for making of myself a false god, an idol,
of holding onto shame that wasn’t mine,
and to the shame You have already forgiven…
I did not believe in the finished work of Christ
that all of my sin was forgiven, forever,
I acted as if I was standing on a banana peel,
that somehow the gift could be taken from me,
that I didn’t have an eternal home…
I wicked the power of salvation, of grace,
the ancient words of scripture, of assurance,
I put myself on Christ’s throne, his sovereignty,
making of myself an idol, denying his faith,
the forgiveness of my rebellion, my sin…
I confess I need to repent, to change,
to release all of my pride, my hubris,
to be transparent in my walk, forgiven,
being honest with God and my neighbors,
wearing the righteousness of Christ…
