Force Majeure*

You loosed the whirlwinds
That day in June
Setting two settled souls
Off their pilings

Forced to face our realities
And our fears
Living outside comfort
Risking everything

Overwhelmed still by uncertainty
Adrift with the floodwaters
Hoping to land and germinate
On fertile soil

New life with you
All I dream of,
All I pray for
Each time Sleep stalks me

Tears

My eyes welled up
Tears rolled down my cheeks
As the choir sang
Of God’s Love and His forgiveness
Vision blurred for a few moments
So I could but see
Unburdening my heart
In your house this Sunday

You are not finished with me.
You have saved me
For what I know not yet
I pray you will steel my heart
And guide my hands and feet
To do your work.

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for this day
And your promise
Paid with your body
For all of us

Crosswalk

Iterative, coding conventions
Six month of our lives
Spent casting and recasting
The structure of the new environment
To bring forward history
And meet the new paradigm
Of an Org-centric model

Overhead and spreadsheets
Whiteboard and Picturetel
To reach consensus
On ever narrowing issues

Fund and Org and Activity
Oh, don’t forget Account
Characters with meaning
Numbers and letters
Six characters and
How many levels
For each

Links hard and soft
Moving before our eyes
Why does that link there now?
Freeze date oh thank God
You are near (or here).

About crosswalking the old accounting system to the new accounting system's nomenclature, back in spring 2001 (part of why I went to law school).

Idiots

Feeble knats
Buzzing in my classroom
Inane questions
Blank looks
On doe-like faces
Frozen in time
By my knowledge
Unable to perceive
The law, the truth
The power of the words
I impart.

Glassworks

Mesmerized, watching
The skill, artistry
Effortlessness in the heat
Of the sweating craftsmen
In the beach air
On the Vineyard

Living,
Molten glass, clear
Droop on the shaft
Entering the
Orange maw
Mouth of the furnace

Glow yellow
from the warming
Glistening wet
Grow with the blow
Liquid and free

Spin and catch
Supple flesh
Add color and form
Enter again
Translucence now
Hot gases
Fill the space
Wipe brow
Enter again

Cool and gel
Cut from the pipe
Clutched like a robin’s egg
By a toddler’s wonder
Placed to firm and harden
Into permanent wonder

Glassworks
about Martha’s Vineyard Glassworks
somewhere I spent hours,
over many summers in the 1990’s watching bowls,
pitchers, pictures, and more, come to life.
