Working side by side

Not alone, on our own
part of a living whole
the body, the church of Christ
the sheep of the fold

We are to work together
working side by side
together serving our neighbor
leaving no one behind

Offering them love
the care of the Master
healing the with a loving word
with the touch of our hands

We are to serve
to carry on Christ’s work
guided by the Spirit
leading us back to God

Only in reflection
seeing the fruits of the labors
the harvest abundant for the Lord

The words of our Savior
before his ascension
not a vague suggestion
something to consider

It is a command
to go and make disciples
baptizing them in his name
giving them new life

Sharing the message
the work of the Master
fed by the Spirit’s fire
going about the work

We are to go

Each Disciple

Pentecost fire burning
the fire of the Spirit
changing us in the crucible
the journey from the cross
the ascension, the rising
of the living Christ

Becoming the obedient vessel

plant a seed of mercy
of covenant love
in the soil of our hearts
watered from above

Give us ears to hear them
those crying out
give us wills to serve them
conformed to your love

Change us into vessels
hands and feet of love

The word around us
in the cloud of God’s presence
his small voice whispering
shouting in the heavens
in the touch of a baby’s hand
in the sunburst after rain

In broad brush strokes
in tiny threads of light
drawing the tapestry
getting it right

Telling the parts
the good and the bad
revealing each other
in light and shadow
coming together
one strand in time

The words telling
the hopes and the sorrows
sharing richly
for all our tomorrows

Only in hindsight
the tapestry finished
colors woven, completed

Christ’s identity

Cutting through confusion
the babel of people
Here before us, with us
the Messiah, Emmanuel
God come down

the stain of my sin
true since the fall of man
sin entered the world
in our rebellion from God
desires of our hearts, our flesh

Reconciled by death

In Christ, in Him
All our tomorrows
Our sorrows reduced
Our joy increased
All of our days
In Him redemption
Salvation when repent
Because he paid the price
He died for us
That we may live
Freeing our chains
The yoke of our sin

Through Baptism, through Faith

Through the death in the water
Symbolizing our stain
Our death from our sin
Written on our hearts
Trusting in the Messiah
The lamb on the cross
The God who came from heaven
Who died for us
Through resurrection rising
From the water, the deep
Leading us to heaven
At the end of the time
Our service over
Our walk on this coil
Leaving the stage
When our time is through
At the end of the age

An Abundant Life

Through the way of the cross
The gift of the Christ
An abundant life he offers
From the depths of God’s grace
Redeeming us fully
Our stain washed away
Freed for tomorrow
And for our life today
Obedient servants
Faithfully going
As the Spirit calls us
To get up and go
Serving our neighbors
The stranger, our brothers
Offering them the riches
God pours out on us
