From day to sunset – v3

The sun’s daily progression,
there at the horizon, the sky,
from day to night to day again,
the sphere of the Earth,
The arc, our mortal coil…
 
From day to sunset coming,
from sunset to twilight melting
from twilight to dusk falling
and from dusk to night, darkness,
The curtain is drawn, to sleep…
 
The arc, dome of the sky,
a canopy of stars, the universe,
the measure of the horizon,
a changing of the guard,
Getting ready to begin…
 
Now night gives way, the stage,
from night to dawn breaking,
from dawn to Twilight melting,
from Twilight to sunrise, waking,
Finally, from sunrise to the new day…

onto the water - v4

Dusk bled to darkness,
stillness, surrounding night -
mid-week mid-summer,
the moon overhead
leading me home.

Pulling out onto the water,
my canoe and my paddle,
moving as silently as possible;
A whisper on the surface,
A breath on the water.

From day to sunset

the circle of the Earth,
the arc, our mortal coil…
 
From day to sunset coming,
From sunset to twilight melting
From twilight to dusk falling
And From dusk to night
The curtain is drawn…
 
The dome of the sky,
The measure of the horizon,
The changing of the guard,
Getting ready to begin…
 
Now night gives way,
From night to dawn breaking,
From dawn to Twilight melting,
From Twilight to sunrise, waking,
Finally, From sunrise to the new day…

Just before #Dusk - v2 #poetry

Falling from the higher ground
down toward the city
out of the sunshine
just before twilight, dusk.
 
The light warmer, the air,
an amber glow surrounding,
quickly receding behind me
driving down the highway,
longing for, heading home.
 
The vibrant colors turning,
a washed monochrome
melting into sameness
before the coming of night…

A Hint of Lilac – v2

At the edge of dusk,
the sky cooling slightly,
a pink glow rising,
with just a hint of lilac…
 
Before the darkening came,
After dusk’s amber light,
the sky alit in softer hues,
before the coming of night…

red sunset turning to mauve, to plum – v3

At work, on the register, in this moment,

unable to leave, to journey,

to find that perfect place to witness

the changing from day to night,

the wonder of the sky.

 

Ablaze, burning, scorched,

remnants of the fires, hazy,

capturing a moment, a lifetime,

stopping just for an instant,

running across the street.

 

Sky a canvas, the dome,

catching a glimpse only, before fading,

running out to meet it, to greet,

red sunset turning to mauve, to plum,

color growing ever deeper.

 

Fading of the light, its dying,

longing to remember, to capture,

the sun’s last brightness

the quickening of the night

growing ever deeper still.

At work, in this moment,

bands of plum, of amethysts - v5

I felt a need to go, to see,

stepping outside to look

the sky, off in the distance,

beyond the wires, the lot, above the woods,

a combination of warm and cool colors

caught between day and night.

Rich, broad brushstrokes

bands of plum, of amethysts,

magenta, dusty rose

and wisps of smoke,

were written, layered together,

to see, to feel, to drink.

There was a whisper across the heavens

fading colors of the sunset

the dying of the light

after sunset, second sunset,

a time of twilight before darkness

the full blooming of night.
