Apricot and Periwinkle – v5

Thinking in Color
The poem’s name coming
Pulled from the ether
From my memory.
Awake to these senses
Alive in this moment of time
Captured, remembering
A touchstone, an image
Forever burned in my mind.

Apricot and periwinkle,
Robin’s egg and salmon skin.
Moments, seconds really,
Flickering before me
Of yesterday’s sunset
Fading, dying, yet
Frozen in my mind
Captured forever
To recall years later.

No Nikon or Kodak,
No disposable or instamatic.
Images captured on
Rods and cones this time,
Not on emulsion.
Fine grained, the pixels,
Absorbed within, deeply,
And enduring, connecting,
Synapses growing.

Soft shadows
Muted edges, eye-shadow,
And wispy gossamer clouds.
Bands of color and mood
Share the sky above
The still air the canvas
With small birds
And a damselfly,
Before the dark.

Stars create a canopy
The shape of the dome
Above the dark landscape
After the light fails
Before me over the water.
The sunset now
A part of my memory.
My experience, my life
To cherish forever.
