Not just evocative,
drawing us into these moments,
we are there with them,
experiencing what they felt,
sitting in our reserved seats,
smelling the peanuts,
tasting the beer, the popcorn,
feeling that same sunlight upon us,
watching our heroes play,
Baseball, eternal, remembering,
these moments today...

A hiss, a sizzle, over the sand – v4 #susurration

A hiss, a sizzle over the sand,
like hot oil crackling on a grill,
each wave breathing a whisper,
a touching of the sea upon the land,
a promise in the conversation,
at the end a susurration …
 
Hands of the ocean, the sea’s fingers,
caressing the shoreline, the liquid sand,
water stirring, approaching, turning, repeating,
ancient lovers in the dance of the tides,
answering the moon’s urgent cry…
 
A hiss, a sizzle over the sand,
like hot oil crackling on a grill,
each wave breathing a whisper,
a touching of the sea upon the land,
a promise in the conversation,
at the end a susurration …

Love in the little things,
In actions, intention,
Love with what we do,
Not merely in flowery words…
 
Love with your whole heart,
Thinking first of others,
Step out in faith, do the work,
Show them that you love them…
 
Love is a verb, an action,
A choice to be the servant,
Serve others in your path,
Step out of your comfort…

They share a message critical, a hope important,
there is an urgency within imperfect words,
needing to be spoken, to be written,
demanding attention, offering hope…
 
There is an urgency of imperfect words,
a message someone needs right now,
words deep within, welling up, pouring out,
demanding attention, imparting hope…
 
Somehow, they rise up, from deep within,
crying to be spoken, to be written,
urgent words, important words,
demanding attention, inspiring hope…

Focusing on one wave – v4

Noise, cacophony, a cadence, repeating,
successive waves building, crashing, usurping,
seemingly jealous, needing attention as a child,
seeking to dilute the moment, the power,
the majesty, of each wave at its breaking…
 
Needing to become still, silent, attentive, present,
focusing on one wave, its individual movement,
each one in succession, striving, yearning,
concentrating my attention, my hearing
to the mystery hidden, revealed, within…
 
Focusing, listening more deeply, more surely,
for the story in their merging, their receding,
the moon orchestrating a dance, a kiss of blessing,
a gift of the vast ocean to this shoreline
a touching, a caress, a prayer within each one…

Almost silent over the sand – v8

Ancient waters, almost silent over the sand,
as each wave breaks, flowing, repeating,
falling forward, thrusting, melting, receding,
just a murmur over the grains, liquid silica,
already wet from each passing…
 
Cacophony, the cadence, the rhythm,
successive waves building, crashing,
diluting the power, the majesty,
of each wave at its gifting…
 
A sound of sizzle, of percolating, of boiling,
of water falling, rain erupting, a hush,
silence in their dissolving, catharsis, a pause,
a blanket opening, unfurling, pulling,
as the wave melts, merges, slides
over water atop the wet sand…
 
Focusing my attention on one wave
each one in succession, urgent,
concentrating my hearing
to their mystery within…
 
Only a kiss, a hiss, of friction, pausing,
giving way to the majesty of this moment,
releasing the water, letting go of control,
offering each wave to the shoreline,
drawing, pulling the wave back again…
 
Listening more deeply, urgently,
for the story in their releasing
a gift of the ocean to the shoreline
a prayer within each one…
