describing the moment,
Going to Jesus, going to His Master,
when the rock walking on the waters,
When he saw the wind,
when fear caught him,
When Peter began to sink…
 
When the rock walking on the waters,
Losing His focus, his eyes off Jesus,
When he saw the wind,
when he had doubt,
listening to the whisper,
to his internal voice,
When each of us begin to sink…

brown of the earth

Speaking to our spirits,
finding a place together
goldenrod and asters
in fields of wildflowers.
 
Choosing their partners
sisters and brothers
gold and purple together
earth alive, ablaze.
 
Brown of the earth below us,
in merging their colors
creation singing harmony,
in fields of wildflowers.
 
Their colors hold us to the land,
returning to the fields,
these plant elders call to us,
within these wild places...

Ask the Woods – v2

We must Seek Wisdom, Knowledge,
Beyond our Understanding, stretching,
We should Ask the Woods, the Forest,
We must Stop to Listen to Nature's words…

Air rushing by us Whispers,
Rocks, Animal Shamans Speak,
Plant Elders, Ancient Ones,
Share their Wisdom, their Guidance…
 
We must Still ourselves on our Journey,
Out into the Woods, the Forest,
As we Walk by the Waters, in the Fields,

Up on the Mountains, in the Valley…

We must Walk more slowly, we must Listen,
Finding Nature’s Elders to Guide us,
They Share Ancient Wisdom, Answers,
Sometimes beyond our Understanding.

The Winds Calling – v4

The Winds calling,
ever blowing, sowing fear, doubt,
pulling under the waves.
 
We need to be bold, to listen,
to focus, only to our God.
 
Our feet would be steady,
there upon the waters, walking,
boldly going, honoring our call.
 
How much we miss in life
when we listen to the Wind.

Turning our eyes from their evil #Ukraine #Russia #Kharkiv #Bucha #Mariupol

So many atrocities, so much pain,
Too many to number, to fathom,
Again and again, too much,
Turning our eyes from their evil,
Feeling we are impotent, unable,
To help, to do anything in this time…
 
Too easily distracted, to turn away,
To switch the channel, to scroll away,
Putting our heads in the sand, too much,
Not speaking out, crying out, “Enough!”;
This madness must end, crying for the people,
The Terrorists, Russia cannot win!

winged samaras – v2

seeds of maples,
many sizes, colors,
wing samaras twirling,
spinning, falling, blowing,
raining down from the branches,
 
a season of sharing, the early harvest,
 
offering themselves to the winds,
to be blown asunder, guided,
to fertile ground, to grow,
to bear fruit, to thrive,
somewhere else…

The breath of God, His assurance, His whisper,
Within every breeze, the rushing wind,
Within the air we breathe, every thunderclap.
 
If we will listen, if we will perceive it,
God is breathing presence, protection,
Into our lives, each moment, with us,
as real as the air we breathe, every breath…

God’s love is the heart line – v2

God’s love is the heart line,
In the hand of creation,
The beating of heaven.
 
God is the essential thread,
Woven into our story,
The fabric, the tapestry,
The living of our lives.
 
Nothing can pull Christ away,
from the cloth, from the thread,
From the fabric, our story.
 
Indwelling Spirit lead us,
Protect us, weave Yourself tighter,
Into our story, our tapestry,
The living of our days.

Nothing on heaven and earth,
No one can take Jesus from us,
He is our strong tower, our protector,
He is our Savior, our Lord.
 
Come to the feet of Jesus,
Rest in His comfort, His assurance,
God will never leave or forsake us,
He is our Savior, our Lord.

He is right by our side,
His Spirit dwells within us,

From day to sunset – v2

There at the horizon,
The sun’s daily progression,
from day to night to day again,
the circle of the Earth,
the arc, our mortal coil…
 
From day to sunset coming,
From sunset to twilight melting
From twilight to dusk falling
And From dusk to night, darkness,
The curtain is drawn, sleep…
 
The dome of the sky,
A canopy of stars, the universe,
The measure of the horizon,
The changing of the guard,
Getting ready to begin…
 
Now night gives way, the stage,
From night to dawn breaking,
From dawn to Twilight melting,
From Twilight to sunrise, waking,
Finally, From sunrise to the new day…

Roads in the dirt – v2

I was the city planner, the construction manager,
Long before computer planning games,
I was the steam shovel, the excavator,
The water works contractor,
The creator in the dirt.
 
Roads in the dirt, thanks to Tonka,
To my own shovel, pushing,
Grading the ground to my will
A city growing before me,
With roads, aqueducts.
 
Sticks for foundations, rocks to make them level,
Houses and buildings added to my city.
Bridges and tunnels created,
Matchbox cars and trucks driving,
On the roads that I had built.
 
Creating commerce, freight, cargo,
The seeds of maples opened,
Gathered for the markets,
Loaded into the trucks, for market,
Driving on these roads.

Owners, not Renters,

Family, not Team,
defining our culture,
Who we are,
What we believe.
 
So very different,
a better business model,
aspiring for balance,
for meaning, for purpose,
adopting a Servant heart.
 
Life and Work balance,
Rewards within the striving,
Taking ownership, responsibility,
In every day, in every task,
In every step, each breath….

Roads in the dirt

I was the city planner, the construction manager,

In the classroom, the courtroom,
at the register, at the deli,
in line, in traffic, to your neighbor,
in the living room, on the street,
We are always on, listen up…
 
Life is a performance, a test,
We are all actors on the stage, but
this is not just theatre, it is more important,
Everyone is paying attention, watching,
what we say, what we do in life.
 
So, we all should model best behavior,
We should act more kindly, gently,
seeking to understand and not judge,
to act humbly, be slow to anger,
We should follow the golden rule…

onto the water - v4

Dusk bled to darkness,
stillness, surrounding night -
mid-week mid-summer,
the moon overhead
leading me home.

Pulling out onto the water,
my canoe and my paddle,
moving as silently as possible;
A whisper on the surface,
A breath on the water.
