If only we could follow
the admonition in the letter
is we could remember
Christ’s sacrifice
that we would not slip or fall
That we would be joyful
thankful in this walk
that we would journey
without complaint or protest
doing our master’s work
From the moment in the garden
tasting of the fruit
because it was not allowed
our walk made more difficult
when we try to go our own way
All of the complaining
the balking at the bit
forgetting Christ’s submitting
taking on our sin
going the way of the cross
More happy when we ponder
remember these lessons
spending time in the word
mindful of his loving grace
for all the people in the world

Uprightly
A Way to our living
our goal as children of God
walking uprightly
because he loves us so
His suffering so great
far more than my ills
humbled, emptied
his deity laid on the ground
Rising from the dust
alive as you and me
God walking as a man
made with feet of clay
His whole life a sacrifice
giving up his throne
humbly walking the earth
his path leading to the cross
In the face of this
realizing, at least in part,
our way much easier than this
by grace we are given a new start
Walking as God’s children
trying not to complain
aware of his sacrifice
that we may live again

Confessing His Name
Bowing at the calling of his name
the one who came to earth
God descended, given human birth
Confessing his name
as our lord and king
singing praises to our God
Holy is he, the Lord of our life
the lamb upon the throne
risen to glory in final victory
Taking away our stain
by climbing the rugged cross
that we may rise with him
at the end of the age

Yielding
Husband and wives
called to a place of yielding
agape love
giving our will over
to one another, in love
Submitting like our savior
giving himself over to God
emptying himself wholly
to be filled by God’s love, his grace
becoming an offering
So we are to be with each other
part of God’s plan
that we would love one another
humbly, as a servant
giving our lives over
yielding to our partner’s will

Submitting to Each Other
Submitting to each other
as to the master’s plan
cleaving to the other
together we are one
Love to guide us
as Christ shared with man
not friendship or eros
something much deeper than this
To be loving, submitting
our self poured out
filled only with God’s love
grace to be poured out
Filling the other
and ourself in the giving
submitting to each other
that we each would be filled

Humbled as to Our Brother
Husbands and wives
to humble themselves
to obey the other
to yield to our partners
as to our brother, our savior
deferring to their wishes
