I find no joy in the work
in my constant toil, my struggle,
seeking to make something of
the compromises I have chosen,
the path that I now walk.
 
Too often hating what I do
feeling I am on the wrong path
but only going deeper,
losing more of myself
in the work I have chosen.

I am lost on the wrong path
Regrets aplenty, overwhelming,
Following the wrong calling
Meaning, worth, and value,
In things of nothing, of dust.
 
I am standing in the breach
In the company of many others
In the gap like my father before me
Seeking rewards on this earth
In sweat and toil alone.
 
I have gained nothing of real value
In the compromises, the choices,
Choosing work over my family
Losing so much along the way,
Myself, first and foremost…

God's beloved children - v2

We are no longer strangers, others,
those on the outside;
We are now God's beloved children 
within God's circle of love.

 

We have been healed for a purpose,
to share God's great love,
the love that descended upon us
like fire, like a dove.

 

We joyfully hear God's message 
our assurance of an eternal home;

We are promised a life beyond this life
eternity in heaven above.

Peculiar in his particularity – v2

Standing before me, vibrating,
I could see his mind reeling,
his spirit overwhelmed,
almost hyperventilating.
 
An image of Rasputin, sweating,
complete with beard, cross, and vestment,
steeling himself, gathering his senses.
 
Peculiar in his particularity
his order for his smokes
his means to his ending.
 
Not a single pack or a carton
doing slow mental math,
like Rain Man counting toothpicks,
determining how much poison to buy.
