With More Gentle Words – v4

Humbly we come, Lord
a burden on our hearts
our hearts heavy
a prayer for Your guidance
Your mercy, Your love
needing Your loving hands
for Your loving touch

With more gentle words
in sharing different opinions
not judging our neighbors from
our flawed discernment
of Your loving Word

Speaking to us ever
until we have truly heard
ready when we will turn
desiring Your message to us
Your path for our lives

Leading us on this journey
the Spirit within, leading,
into Your holy light;
going forth with You
out into Your creation
carrying Your banner before us
to save the whole world

When We Come – v4

When we come
on our knees, to the rail,
petitions, prayers to God
not understanding
asking why, how

Humbly coming
on our knees, to the rail,
because we are of clay
the stuff of the earth
made by God’s loving hands

Not worthy on our own
by our works made right
coming because of the Christ
on our knees, to the rail,
to Christ who living and died for us

Saved only by grace
the love of God for man
we come on our knees, to testify,
not by our piety, our works
only by the blood of the lamb

why don’t we believe – v4

We are quick to believe
claims of the charlatans
selling cheap stuff;
believing their pitch
of those mired here with us
breathing in the dust

God of miracles
of creation’s breath
work within me
to change my heart;
help me to believe
to trust in your love

help me to heal,
to rise from bended knees,
to pray with my hands
not just with my mouth;
to offer a hand to them
to trust in your love

different stairs – v3

one and the other
clear demarcations
unclean and clean
meaning in the ancient baths
preceding Jesus, older
different stairs for entering
and for returning
foretelling John
the bath in the Jordan
as Christ did himself
to justify,
to sanctify,
to make holy
the baths for washing
ritual purity
entering dirty
and exiting clean

In stubbornness – v6

In stubbornness, in pride
I leave, I run away
I go my own way, defiant
denying the need for the cross
denying the need for God

In stubbornness, self-centeredness
as if in my own person, creation
I believe the lie of the self-made man
not needing the Creator, the Savior
lost in the myth, our collective self-delusion

In stubbornness, in blindness
wandering in the same filth
the one, the Prodigal Son
the pigs eating fully
but I am lost, hungry
needing the cross, to survive,
needing God’s love
