Our new lives waiting
our bodies to be transformed
putting on a new garment
clothed for eternity
washed by our savior’s blood
In bodies that
cannot be destroyed
never more to dies
radiant vessels of our king
rising to heaven above

His Quiet Presence
Happy are we the believers
coming into his presence
Out of the silence
in the breath of the morning
the words of scripture
the smile of loved ones
or of a stranger
becoming a friend
in unexpected ways
God sharing his quiet presence
speaking out of the silence
his love for each one of us
for all of mankind

An Audience with God
Not to the principal’s office
called to his presence
out of love, assurance
the prophet given
an audience with God
Revealing himself to him
not as expected
out of the silence speaking
sharing his love
drawing near to him
sending him forth to serve

The Tapestry of the Song
The one song of Christ
sung with different voices
over the centuries
across the face of the earth
in diverse languages
singing the song of our savior
The tapestry of the song forming
as each strand is woven
down through the ages
each of us a thread in the whole
together raising our voices
sharing our gifts of the spirit
until the fabric is complete
singing a song of victory
raised ever to God

Freed of His Demons
The voice of Christ enough
healing him completely
his spirit no longer tortured
Christ speaking, commanding
and he was freed of his demons
Offering hope in his hometown
healing for the people
witnessing there

restored to his community

Serving Where He was Appointed
The scripture doesn’t say
that he was upset
when Jesus said no
that he was to stay
and preach of his healing
where he already lived
Serving where he was appointed
humbling going home
sharing the power of Christ
making him right with God
healing him from within

To Witness Close to Home
The power of Christ
his authority under heaven
driving out the demons
wanting to follow Christ

What the Congregation Missed
Seeing her young face
a little bit dirty
her mother tentative
wanting to say yes
the little stuffed dolly
with the tea set stitched
part of her hands
set just right
The little wicker bench
part of the set
making her dream complete
written across her face
Watching her mother
as I told her it was free
her question, even unspoken
enough to melt your heart
“Can I momma”, she asked shyly
perhaps knowing too many times
when the answer was no
But after the yard sale
the pile of our offering
placed at the end of the driveway
with a big sign that said FREE

Becoming His Body
I pray that this moment
this part of the story
would pour over us like water
that we would see this mystery
It was in the end times
when the gifts we have received
were offered to our neighbors
when the needy came to us
and were offered a hand
At the end of the day
the free will offering
the items for those
who could not afford to pay
In that moment
most fully, perhaps,
being the body of Christ
showing his love to the world

Priced by Christ
Not for our treasury
but for his glory
the tailings of the yard sale
set out as free
At the end of the driveway
the humble neighbors
coming to the offering
left there for them
To see the faces
hope rising
something the others
did not see
While I was mowing
the front lawn
before the church
hearing their thank you’s
offered up to God

did not see
While I was mowing
the front lawn
before the church
hearing their thank you’s
offered up to God

Giving What We Were Given
Offering to the people
the price that we paid
the remaining things given
away as free
Giving what we were given
perhaps a divine appointment
something that someone needed
but could never afford
Other items to be given
to those down and out
others still offered
as a “Goodwill” offering

Serving Our Neighbors
In leaving the rest
at the end of the yard sale
the pile of things
that no one had bought
not boxing it up
saved for another year
giving the rest away
to others in need
Left for their choosing
their gathering in private
able to get what they could not afford
their lives perhaps easier
by the things they collected
sometimes important
sometimes things of love
Either way a blessing
the things that we offered
not only those things
that brought in an offering
Both of them God’s blessing
when we are guided
led by the Spirit
to live out our lives in love

Giving Away Our Treasure
Giving away our treasure
that which was given to us
sharing with our neighbors
the hand, a word of Christ
Offering them our witness
that God truly provides
trusting in his goodness
leaving the rest behind
Giving away our treasure
that all would feel your love
guide me spirit, father
let me do your work
Offering them our friendship
walking lightly in the world
giving away our treasure
that all would be restored

Priced for His Glory
An offering for the Lord
giving away our treasure
the gifts we were given
to help our fellow man
Priced for his glory
that they would accept the offer
making Christ accessible
in the way we walk in the world
Sharing Christ, his blessings
openly, freely
giving away our treasure
that all men would be healed
Going into the world
offering a helping hand
sharing the love of the father
doing all that we can

Holding Onto Our Treasures
We must be mindful
as stewards of the earth
not just to subdue it
but to treasure its worth
the people, our neighbors
like us on the journey of life
needing to remember
that we are blessed by our creator
that we must give that blessing to them
So must remember
in our walk, to be faithful
not to hold onto our treasure
the things, the clutter
that gets in the way
in love, serving our savior
his hands and feet in the world
not holding onto our treasure
instead, giving it away

Holy Conversations
Far more than the treasure
the income we receive
opening our hearts
so much more is the connection
between you and me
Each of us joining
sharing a smile, our faith
extending to our neighbors,
the community, welcome
a place to meet, to greet
To share in talk,
holy conversation
to offer Christ to them
giving when we could make a profit
sharing our love for them

Finding Treasures
A smile coming on their face
a stranger remembering a time, a place
something that catches their eye
a special treat, a bit of whimsy
something for the yard or den
Finding treasures on the table
in the yard, the box, the trinkets
something that they have to have
something we don’t have to put away
for another similar day

In shards of epiphany
In moments of enlightenment
a foretaste of God
often without words
in beauty, in light
in singing, in dancing
in the face of a child;
In shards of epiphany
From deep in my heart
my spirit hearing
the song of God
the three yet one
walking with me
leading me to dance
for all eternity
