Bearing a new identity

a new name in Christ,

in our risen Savior...

Slowly becoming a new man,

taking the name of a disciple,

hearing His Master’s call...

A radical transformation

submitting his old self

conforming his steps

the same wry smile but different,

God’s spark in his heart...

God changed his name

like Abram becoming Abraham,

or more, like Jacob becoming Israel,

for he wrestled with God...

An enemy now a friend,

a child of the living God...

Only You are wise, Lord,
I confess my failure,
listening to my own counsel
quarrying my own wisdom
as if knowledge itself is life,
walking apart from You...

I confess that I am broken,
that I am an empty vessel...
Wisdom has but one reservoir
only one fount for an abundant life...
Wisdom is imparted by Your hand, O God,
in You alone is my reward...

You alone are wise, Father...
I am a fool to think I am...
I am but a cracked vessel...
I must not seek my own wisdom,
but I must trust in You alone, Lord,
for You are my salvation and strength...

I need You, Lord, each moment
trusting You only
for life is in the journey
with Your Holy Spirit guide my steps...
I have life in You only;
in You is my reward...

listening to your own counsel
quarrying your own wisdom
as if knowledge is life
apart from walking with God...

wisdom has but one reservoir
only one fount for life...
wisdom is imparted by the hand of God
in Him is your reward...

you are not as wise as you think,
you too are a cracked vessel,,,
seek not your own wisdom,
but trust in the Lord...

life is in the journey
the Holy Spirit guiding your steps...
we have life in God only;
in Him is our reward...

Help me to seek You
Your holy Wisdom...
May I dip my cup
in Your living waters each day...

Refill me, Lord,
when I am dry, when I am empty...
Fill me with Your Wisdom,
with Your Love, o God...

Pour out Your Wisdom
into my spirit...
Feed me with Wisdom
like manna in the desert...

Hear my prayer, Lord,
I long to follow...
Impart Your Wisdom...
Fill me to overflowing...

These words are a prayer for another
a brother who is hurting, in sin;
but I pray these words over both of us...
Oh Lord, heal us within...

A spirit of death is upon me
I dip my cup into sin...
Release me, I pray, O Father,
from this struggle, this pain...
Heal me completely within...

Lead me to Your Light,
Your Love in holy scripture...
Guide me out of this darkness
Lord, heal me to live again...

Only You are righteous,
the fount from which we drink...
Only Your wise counsel
can heal us completely within...

A #Lean-to in the #Woods - v4 #poetry #poem #wind #nature #forest #cold #love #grace #faith #God #hope #comfort #woods #spring #ladyslipper #flower

A bed of pine, of leaves,
corrugated metal for a roof
and snow fencing walls...
a tin of fresh-pine-needle tea
brewing in the open fire...

A coffee-stain of rust
white and mint-green lichen
the metal thin
when it shouldn't be
shape to my touch...

My place of refuge
out in the woods
just up the hill
off the path, in the deep...
just up from home.

I remember the pine needles
untrammeled, deep,
like light snow in a filed
texture like corn husks
that had been allowed to dry...

A place for reflection
sanctuary in the city
close but away
from the day-to-day
from school, from my home...

Near the single-bed of lady slippers
that I had discovered,
up the path and to the right...
I could still walk it now
Fifty years later...
though I haven't yet...

Let us, in faith,
stir up our fire,
blowing on the embers
fanning the flames
in the heart of another,
not letting them be lukewarm
in their walk with Christ...

Let us listen to the Spirit
calling us to be present
to hear them, fully,
to walk with them,
beside them on the journey
encouraging them in love
for their walk with Christ...

Let us cleave to one another
our sisters and brothers
to the faith we share,
let us stir up each other
for we are called to act
to move in community
to grow the church...

We dip our lives, our empty cups
into this pool of living water,
to be healed, to be refreshed,
to taste God-breathed love
written in holy scripture...

These words are the foundation,
the stories we cleave to,
the rock our faith stands on...
God leaves us instructions
on how to live in this world...

Scripture is a mirror
to the Father, our Savior
in these Spirit-breathed words,
Love was written lovingly
for our journey on this earth...

#drinking these #words of #Jesus – v2 #Poetry #God #Christ #Spirit #faith #prayer #love #John15 #friend #disciple #master #abide

like nectar poured from heaven,
like water to those who thirst...
coming in communion with scripture
drinking these words of Jesus
dripping from His lips...
prayed over the disciples
sensing the tension, the fear,
in the upper room...
sharing of the cup
eating of the bread
Falling down in worship
in cleaving to Christ’s command
to love as He loved us,
walking humbly in the world...

immersed in the living word,
dipping our bodies, our souls,
into these living waters...
pausing to breathe deeply
of the promises in His words,
the command to love one another
to abide in Christ’s love...
offered in these words
in the hot upper room,
but more by His example,
His choice to climb the cross...
Being prepared to see our neighbor
our brothers and sisters as worthy
of our love, our very lives...

#droplets heavy on the #gossamer – v5 #poetry #writing #MaryOliver #inspiration #nature #God #faith #family #spider #web

Dew, mist, today’s light rain shower,
exposed her artistry, her precision
that which she meant to hide...

Droplets heavy on the gossamer
jewels festooned on the threads,
the lattice of her craft, her handiwork.

Strands of pearls more than strung, knitted,
hung as if weightless in space...
outlining this creator’s masterpiece...

Each time she stitched the lines,
casting her net into the breeze,
what would normally be invisible, hidden...

Panes of deadly glass glazed to capture,
her prey in her clutches, the unwise,
the unseeing, falling onto her trap...

Her adorned confection, a tapestry,
her trap, shown in its beauty,
by the furtive wet...

our way would be straighter
our path would be easier
if we would just listen
if we walked each day
in the way God commands,
if we follow the cross...

if we would just listen
to the Word God left us
if we would change
if we would follow
the way of Jesus,
the way of the cross...

if we would just listen
to the Spirit speaking to us
if we would cleave to every word
breathed by our loving God...
Our way would be easier
if we trusted in God
if we trusted in Him alone...

coming in communion with scripture
drinking these words of Jesus
dripping from His lips,
prayed over the disciples

Falling at Your #Throne #Poetry #God #Christ #Spirit #faith #prayer #submission #worship #child #children #love #praise #pray #praying #prayer

I saw him moving so quickly
running from his pew, his seat,
on legs so tiny, so small,
Falling before at Your altar,
Falling at Your throne, oh Lord...
not looking for attention
but convicted, Father,
Singing Your praises,
The glory of Your name...

He fell to his knees,
in submission, modeled,
by his elders, his family...
He came forward running,
with reckless abandon, falling,
knowing You alone are worthy
of our worship and praise,
Falling to his knees in worship,
Offering You his heart, his day...

His power, his position
Sacrificed at the feet of Jesus,
His one hope for salvation
To heal the one he loved...

He didn't think about consequences,
His love guided his steps,
He knew in his heart
Jesus was the only way...

He believed in Christ's power
His power to heal
He fell down in worship
At the feet of Jesus Christ...

Give up your power, your station,
Focus on the one thing,
Your need for Jesus,
for healing, for eternal life...

Fall at the feet of Jesus,
Offer Him your worship,
Only Jesus can heal us,
He can save us from death...

Worship the God here with us,
The Spirit abiding within,
Bring Him your pain, your weakness,
In Christ do we live...

There may be a cost in this life,
To reject the things of this world,
But oh, the reward is so much greater
When we fall before the Lord...

we will be redeemed
out of God’s mercy...
we will be renewed
climbing on eagle’s wings
like Job after his testing...
we are raised from the pit...

God is all-powerful
He is eternally good
merciful in His judgment...
we are restored in abundance
more than we had lost...

we are renewed in our hearts...

In the fields with our Father
serving in the vineyard, working,
going, doing the Savior’s work,
washed clean of our sin...

Proof of change in our lives
in our walk on this earth
so much greater than merely
mouthing the word, repentance...

It is our turning, going,
the power in our action,
in serving in laboring,
in the vineyard of God...

We demonstrate we are changed
that our lives are now Jesus’ own,
when we turn from our sin
when we confess, when we go...
