I don’t see how

I don’t see how
his honest statement
truth before God
his only option

I don’t see how
only by God’s action
the ice melting
in God’s season

Grown between us

between God and man
each one of us
scar tissue, anger
pain to let go of
Healing the wound
by God’s hand
leaving our anger
in God do we stand

Healing the wound

God working
healing the wound
if we are open
to God’s love
The ache growing
held with
given to you
that we may live

How do I trust
in your Sovereign Lord

pain in this world
How do I trust
a future, a hope
life yet within me
You in my walk

rich in good works
not in words only
our response to grace
so willingly given
not a reward, wages
for our works, our giving
these our response
to the grace already given

Drop your stones – v5

Let go of judgment
as did Christ
be merciful, humble
drop your stones
leave them in the dust
Love unconditionally
as did Christ
offer them your presence
share love richly
to all whom you meet

Shards Cut – v2

Shards of God’s love
planted in our hearts
living within us
the Spirit crying
when we stray from Love

Shards cut us deeply
conscience has sharp edges
to call us from the pit
to turn our lives to Him
that we may truly live

Shards of God’s love

Shards of God’s love
shining in each beating heart
a seed of heaven planted,
within the clay of each one

Needing to be tended
to be fed with your love
his breath giving us life
all of us connected
to our creator, to all eternity

If we could but see
that light in our neighbors
how different would the world
would all life be

As to the least of these
the savior will say in the gathering
bringing the sheep in
to the gates of heaven

How many more
would be gathered in
if the words of the judgment
were understood by man

A hint of divine truth
the connectedness of creation
the creator in each beating heart
in the face of every stranger

God as our Father
Christ our Risen Brother,
the Church as our Mother

Growing Like a Garden – v3

Our communities, our faith journey
hope in love, in living together
in growing as one, the church,
like a summer garden
fed and watered, nurtured
by the depths of God’s love

Healing coming, weeds removed
dry places tilled, new soil turned
growing like a garden
tended and cared for
a harvest in God’s season
all to be gathered in

“Making the secular Holy”
----
This poem is about my wife and me when we got married
in a civil service on December 17, 2004 in Concord, NH in White Park
and then before our church family at
Wesley United Methodist Church in Concord, NH
on April 23, 2005.
----
We celebrate 2 anniversaries because they both mean a great
deal to us, in very different ways.
I grieve for those who are able to marry civilly in so many
states now, such as NH, but are unable to marry in their
United Methodists churches and for the clergy who are put on trial
for choosing to go against the Discipline to marry them.

Love the Sinner, Hate Ourselves – v2

Ours not to judge
but to hate our past
the sin which we carry
making us the lost

We are to bow down
to fall at Christ’s feet,
at the foot of the cross
in the garden with Him

We are to love, as He did
to love the sinner, ourselves
to love Jesus, our Savior,
our Brother, our Guide

Love the sinner, all of us
our sisters, brothers in this walk
hating only ourselves
for sin remaining in our lives
