The rise of Hitler, of Mussolini,
Marcos, any strongman in power,
corrupting human hearts, propaganda,
lies gathering the weak, the gullible,
Become a cult of personality.
No turning back, no return,
A gathering storm of grievances,
a threat too present, too grave,
Soon there will be blood in the street.
The Leader demanding loyalty,
fealty over facts, reality,
truth of the moment, corrupted,
anything to hold onto, to regain,
Power above all else.
A slippery slope, a precedent,
Martyrdom to madness, an army,
finding a group to blame, to torment,
History that is too easy to repeat.
