We are under attack – v2

January 6th was nothing, a test, a trial balloon,

part of a continuum, a process, a harbinger,

the coup d’etat was just the icing, the tease,

a deflection, a distraction, a faux junta,

the boys, keepers, the percenters, the anarchists, militias,

the conspiracy theorists, the true believers, all of them,

capturing attention, the headlines, distracting us

from the true insurrection, the revolution,

the fight over many generations, the true Big Lie,

racism, separation, voter suppression, court packing,

the war already raging, democracy, the dream,

of Martin, of the founders, of our people

hanging by a thread, the sword already falling

Damocles, oh my Captain, where are our leaders,

who are the truth speakers, the profiles in courage,

who will stand in the breach, on the ramparts,

while the fire rages, while the coup, the sedition,

the traitors are surging, on the march,

usurping, seizing control, the minority,

the rules, the process, all denying the rights,

the hopes of this people, this nation on the brink.
