cleanse my heart – 3 – v2

cleanse my heart Lord
make me brand new
heal me, save me,
from myself, my sin
my path, my flesh

change me Lord
make me brand new
a heart open
to love, to You
ready to go

pouring out our lives – v2

the calling to follow
to the disciples, the children
of God, abiding, living,
to sit, to worship, to live,
to walk the way of Jesus
pouring out our lives
as an offering, a blessing
to give up our control
of the illusion of this
to give ourselves over fully
to the path God has written

our lives in our hands, held,
our clay, our vessel, our worship
broken, offered, poured
pouring out our lives
a sacrifice offered, presented,
given to God for God’s glory
for God’s present kingdom
to be used, to be given,
as an offering worthy
to give ourselves over fully
to the path God has written

shame coats our hearts – v4

a burden upon us, layer upon layer
like lacquer, a hard surface,
rock-hard, impenetrable
shame coats our hearts
not letting anything in
lost in our struggle

a weight, chains
carried, a burden
a stain remembered
our sin, our humanness
no matter the washing
our stain not coming out
