a word, a phrase,
walking on the beach,
early morning, effortless,
no time to sleep,
walking barefoot,
above the waves,
below the dunes,
sand stinging, stars,
in the morning breeze…
 
with a cup of coffee,
black, piping hot,
in a ceramic mug,
deep fall colors,
painted on its sides,
walking barefoot,
above the waves,
sand packed, giving,
to my purposeful strides

If God had not been with us

there in our struggles, our trials,

if God did not hear our cries

the raging waters would have swept us away

The storms are here swirling

Pushing us into the pit, the storms;

We  would have been lost,

but God holds us in His arms.

limiting our movements

the range of our behavior

censuring our freedoms

to not harm our neighbor;

controlling our tongue

the fire within us

seeking to do good

in every situation

limiting our movements

to not be a stumbling block

for other believers;

all of us are called by Jesus

moments in our lives

when we make a difference

Bringing change, comfort

with those who struggle

offering them hope

a way forward

we must never forget the sacred trust

the role each of us are called to fulfill

as the Spirit gifts us, as God calls us

we must remember the calling on each of us

to stand with our neighbors

to speak out as we are able

to be mindful of God’s calling

God’s commission on our life.
