Lilac Air – v3

A living presence, growing,
sweet, intoxicating, alluring
spreading out onto the playground
the bushes changing the air, its texture,
soft, subtle, a presence, enveloping
lilac air at the side of the school
calling, enticing the passersby

To linger, to drink, to soak in
aerosol nectar, a drug
sweet, lively spring perfume
a perfect fragrance,
rich with memory, with color
under a cloudy blue sky
warm this Wednesday afternoon

Living bouquet, immersion,
a balance of purple, of green
set off against, before, alive,
the warm red brick of the school
cool air of spring, a happy presence,
wrapping around us, arms entwined
calling to us, out of a sense of love

Hearing Purple – v2

a tableau alive
overwhelming senses
triggering my brain
awash in morning

hearing purple
synapses firing
my auditory cortex
reverberating in praise

joy in sunrise
warming of morning
awash with colors
rich to my taste

not seeing really
far too limiting
tasting dawn and
hearing purple

Taste color – v2

what if what is before us
heard instead of seen
or what if what we see
isn’t seen but tasted

taste color, hear words
a new world within us

drinking in an image
an image transformed
not seen but heard,
or rather tasted

Sensing His Passion

Not just reading
watching in the present
going much deeper
sensing His Passion

Hearing his blood
smelling his pain
seeing the shame
the agony of Christ

Hearing colors,
tasting his life
his sacrifice for us
alive in that dark night

Sensing His Passion
more synapses firing
awash with the senses
our bodies alive

Tasting the martyrdom
drinking of sorrow
emotions rising
not understanding it all

Methodist Epiphanies – v2

Looking for epiphany moments
rebirth, born again, renewed
in an instant of God’s providence
maybe a wondrous, joyous pristine
a second of time, segmented, cut out
from the days of ones life,

How much simpler, more natural
the daily walk with the Lord,
brought up and living in the faith
of ones’ forebears, walking to perfection
in the family of our faith
seeing the joy of that same path

The repeated gestures, the purity
of the same words, retold
part of our lives, over and over
refrains of a message of grace
of love and redemption
paid by the savior’s blood

Without fanfare or fireworks
perhaps, but no less real,
no less a breath of magic
walking in faith, with God
one foot in front of the other
the days of our lives

Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh – v2

The life, the fulfillment, the prophecy of old
his life, his ministry, his burial in the tomb
woven into the gifts, the three, the wise men
the gold, frankincense, and myrrh they brought him

The king, the priest, the martyr on the cross
living humbly, teaching another way, dying for our sins

The word, the living, the risen Lord
shoot of Jesse, carpenter’s son, God incarnate
at the beginning, Emmanuel, judge at his return

The bread, the lamb, the way
To him, for him, for us all throughout time
was given the gold, the frankincense, and myrrh
by the wise men, traveling from the east, to his bed

In Their Gifts His Journey – v2

Knowing the meaning of the Star
prophecy, the Messiah
our King come into the world
But, more words,
that which was foretold

Prophecy on the role,
the life of Christ
before He was even born
words, long before, of his ministry
his death, his sacrifice for our sin

In their gifts his journey
steps of his holy life
gold, frankincense and myrrh
three faces of the Christ
king and priest and sacrifice
all of this foretold

Hear Colors – v2

Hear colors, taste light,
more than we imagine
if we open our feelings
awakening our senses
to the musings of God

Touch red, orange
breath green, yellow
hearing the visual world
taste the colors, alive
here, right before us

The brain tasting – v2

the brain tasting
bright, shimmering colors
words of mettle, of power
written on the page

tasting the fragrance
meaning in an image
alive within imagination

tasting the words
the image on the screen

but the brain hearing
a symphony of color
transforming, perceiving
a light in the words
power o’er us

The Words of Caiphas – v2

Jagged words of accusation
of judgment, BLASPHEMY!
what would they have been in color
in movement, in power

Daggers of words
in crimson, in scarlet
SHOUTS in the text
even if in silence

The words accusing Jesus
fast, dramatic movement
shudders on the web
rips through the fabric

A Journey of Treasure – v3

Like the ancient Magi
We are each on a journey
each on their own
following their own calling
their own bright morning star

A quest for the King
Ourselves the treasure
the metal, the myrrh, the offering

Following a star, our hope
A search for Epiphany –
Life changing meaning

Through loving adoption
by our Savior, Creator
with one another, in Love
sharing God’s message
God’s light to the world
