each cut on the slicer,
a sizzle, a hiss, a murmur...
the whiz each incoming round,
before the concussion,
hitting the front-line position...
each receding tide
pulled by the moon...
 
the hiss of the meat
its cohesion releasing,
quickly cut for commerce...
bullets before striking the ground...
Every wave returning
pulled back into the ocean
with a similar sound wave...
 
the incongruity of awareness
minds reeling in attention
visualizing a susurration...
the common reverberations...
the oscillation, waves of sounds -
capturing my imagination,
a symmetry, connecting the dots...

The hiss of the meat
 
This poem was scribbled right after I cut some prosciutto
at the deli counter last night. (And I had thought about the sound
when I had cut different kinds of ham in the past).
The sound of the meat being cut immediately
reminded me of the sound of bullets before impact in Ukraine
and the sound of receding tides, the susurration over the sand...

May this war come to an end
with freedom for these people
the brave men and women,
for all the children of this land
Awash in blue and yellow…
 
May sunflowers bloom in Ukraine
May there be a great grain harvest
may they be able to return, to rebuild,
In peace, soon, in their homeland
Awash in blue and yellow…
 
May peace take root, firmly planted
in their rich, dark soil, this earth,
May they walk in their lives freed
from aggression, in their homeland
Awash in blue and yellow…

A #dolphin in the world – v3

Trapped for this time, now, living,
a dolphin in the world, moving,
too pale for the sun, burning,
driven from the sea, the water
up onto the land, an alien,
living as a mortal, a human,
to walk this solid ground…
 
Drawn to the water by his spirit,
returning to the water’s edge,
feeling the pull of the tides, the waters,
standing on the shore, peering,
searching the water for movement,
looking for home, connection once more,
to what once was, what might have been,
to the mystery, the truth out there…

We want peace in our struggles,
we want calm in our trials, our storms,
Your hand of protection upon us,
for You are our Creator, our God,
You are our Savior, our Lord…
 
We long to hear Your whisper,
to feel Your Spirit as close as breath,
to witness, to follow Your calling for us,
the path You have written for in the Book,
Your way that leads to everlasting life…

God’s prayer longing to be heard – v2

God is with us, within us, beside us,
calling to us, if we will but listen,
if we will still ourselves in the storms,
if we will but seek to grasp the intangible,
God’s clear message waiting to be heard,
to be understood, within our spirits, our hearts…
 
God’s prayer for us, His protection, His promise,
waiting for us to see, to feel within our hearts,
His gifts, God’s blessings, rich in abundance, offering,
our place, our calling, our purpose, our path,
within the kingdom of God, His mission,
to redeem us, to save the whole world…
 
God’s prayer over us, within us,
abiding, richly, going before us, shining,
a light to our path, our feet, urging,
wooing, calling us into purpose, our way,
to a life walking beside Him, indwelling,
our own lives a witness to God’s saving grace…

God speaks to us in clouds,
in rainbows, in bright sunshine,
in shafts of light, in sunbeams,
shining down from Heaven,
the whole world alive, so bright...
 
God speaks in power,
in creation, in the heavens,
in clouds, in light, in darkness,
in building thunderheads,
the world is dark, is bright...
 
God speaks in whispers, in the wind,
in rainbows, murmuring, musing,
in thunderclap, in rainstorms,
washing the earth in water,
soon in light once again…
 
God speaks in power,
His upon creation, this earth,
Love of the Creator, the Potter,
transforming the world,
making us whole again…

do your best to be present,
to be blessed right now…
 
Alive in creation, beauty,

building thunderheads, also,

The heavens shout – v2

The heavens shout,
The earth replies,
Glory to the name of God…
 
The dawn breaks,
The earth awakes,
Blessed by His might hand…
 
The people rejoice,
The earth responds,
Glory to the Lamb…
 
The stars proclaim,
The earth sings the reply,
We are the blessed of God…

God speaks in the clouds – v2

God speaks on the clouds,
in shafts of color, of light,
shining down from Heaven,
God’s world ablaze, alive...
 
God speaks in power, in mercy,
in the clouds, in color and light,
building thunderheads, also,
The world is dark, is bright...

We want peace in our struggles,
we want calm in our storms,
Your hand of protection upon us,
for You are our Creator, our Lord,
You, our Savior, our God…
 
We long to hear Your whisper,
to feel You as close as breath,
to follow Your calling for us,
the path You have written for us,
Your way that leads to life…
 
We want peace in our struggles,
to feel the Spirit moving, guiding,
walking with us in each moment,
in this time, in this season, with us,
You, our Savior, our God…

A dance with the Divine… - v4

Our lives have meaning, purpose,
in the smile of Jesus, in the Spirit,
we are here for a reason, this season,
we are held by the Creator, our Savior,
we dance with the Divine, with the holy,
our steps conformed to the Almighty,
to God's plan, His path for our lives,
our destiny, an indwelling commission...
 
All of the days of our lives, our history,
that which yet lies before us, our future,
these steps, this dance, this turning, rising,
a moving of our spirits, a rhythm, a cadence,
alive in the maelstrom, the storm, our struggles,
but safe on the path, the way set before us
listening to the music, the chorus rising,
we dance, spinning, rising, in our paradise…
 
Laughing in the clouds, the heavens,
our spirits rising outside of our bodies,
alive in the spiritual realms, singing,
lifted from the mortal coil right now,
in the quickening of the Spirit, our dance
already begun, soaring, moving with the Divine,
awaken the dance in me, Lord Jesus, I am ready,
take my hand, my partner, and lead…
