If you watched the falling of the snow

Slow down you anxious mind,
set free of the day
put on your coat, your scarf
step outside
if you watched
the falling of the snow
caught in the light, the sky
falling to the ground
swirling, pulled,
in eddies and whirls
landing, light, heavy
upon the fallen leaves
fading yellow, to rust
the oaks and the maples soon buried
under a blanket of white

Awake in the Night

Awake in the night
you on my mind
praying my witness
that you would know him
Claiming the Savior
walking with our Lord
Humble, repentant
confessing your sin
transformed, reborn
walking with him

1 John 1:9
John 1:12
“When we ask God to forgive us for our sins, He does!! "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (I John 1:9) After we do this, when God looks at us, He does not see us but Jesus' righteousness. The blood of Jesus is what washes away our sin. John 1:12 says: "As many as received Him to them He gave the right to become Children of God, even to those who believe in His name."”

Praying for a Soul

Murmuring as I go to sleep
praying when I wake
praying for a soul
one soon to come before you
that they would know you,
run to your arms,
falling to their knees
knowing you are God
hearing your voice calling
claiming you as Lord
repentive, submissive
entering your reward

when Christ climbed the hill

when Christ climbed the hill
Golgotha, Calvary
the cross, the gate of his life
our way to victory

though the gate
the cross, the way
our hope for a new life
his light along the way

what Christ did
when he chose to die for us
redeeming our lives
because he paid the price

A Failed Nation – v3

Claiming to be Christian
but what of our actions
a false sense of freedom
our voices empty
sitting in comfort
while are neighbors are in chains

A glut of the rich, wealthy
lies, a false dream, delusion
turning against others
when we should be loving
healing the wounds, caring
needs of our loved ones
who long to be free

1 John 3:16-17 (KJV)
“Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?”
1 John 3:16-17 (The Message)
“This is how we've come to understand and experience love: Christ sacrificed his life for us. This is why we ought to live sacrificially for our fellow believers, and not just be out for ourselves. If you see some brother or sister in need and have the means to do something about it but turn a cold shoulder and do nothing, what happens to God's love? It disappears. And you made it disappear.”

Through the Gates – v2

by water, by blood,
by giving himself
gates, of his life, of his death
by the water dying
rising to walk the earth
to serve our neighbor
to teach us about God

by blood, by his body
the way of the cross
the gate of victory
atoning for our sin
freed from the grave
when Christ climbed the tree
that we would not be lost

God’s love within us

If we give our treasure
our lives open to our brothers
laying down our lives
following the example of Jesus

God’s love within us
not in words, professing
in action, in truth
giving of our bounty

Are we children of God

Who is our father
are we children of God
if we continue to sin
is the seed within us
lays dormant

Who is our father
are we of the devil
mired in our sin
from the very beginning

Can we claim the name
children of the living God
changed forever
by the seed within us
the sacrifice of Christ

Are we truly righteous
if we hate our brothers
if our sisters cry out
while we keep our treasure

Are we truly Christian

If we continue to sin
if we will not follow
led astray,
away from our shepherd
away from the light of God
rejecting his treasure
Are we truly Christian
do we really know him
blind like the Pharisees
holding onto worldly power

God Sees Christ’s Righteousness

Not our impure bodies
the stuff of our clay
after we have come to him
and laid down our lives
confessing our sins,
cleansed, washed away
God sees Christ’s righteousness
when he looks in our face

At the trough of their power

False idols among us
like hogs for the slaughter
eating their lies, the slop
at the trough of their power
money, prestige, a good name
more important that truth
the innocents in their way

The piece that caught my attention was the statements about God placing hands on the side of the boy’s heart while being sexually abused.
Unlike the story of the fiery furnace in Daniel 3:1-30, where Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego had no smell of smoke on them, victims of sexual abuse do have the smell of the smoke of that evil upon them, even as God was with them in the fire.

In 1973, the same year my grandmother died, I was touched inappropriately
by a stranger on a bike path between my house and the bottle dump where
I liked to go digging. It was over 25 years before I mentioned it to anyone.

When we worship false gods

When we worship false gods
we reap a whirlwind
calamity, iniquity
guilt to go around
False gods of the gridiron
holding our gaze
not wanting the truth
the ugly exposed
in the light of day

At the trough of their power
Sandusky sexual abuse scandal
and re-victimizing the children
in hearing his defense and seeing him
on the sidelines of the Penn State football games
over and over again
and the same for all adult victims of sexual abuse
hearing these words and these images
and failure of Penn State to release all documents
regarding the scandal

Family Secrets - Revised

by a stranger on a bike path between my house and the bottle dump where
I liked to go digging. It was over 25 years before I mentioned it to anyone.
