A Legacy in Their Lives

I could sense the tremble
their mind was working
emotion coming forward
in this time of transition,
rolling back our guarantees

wondering about the reasons
the changes in our culture
the need for these people
standing in the middle
questioning the worth
of the role they played so well

continuity, calm, oil
within the storms of their families
a legacy in their lives
some peace in the knowing
the children they protected
not in the system itself
bent on its own destruction
