Lip Service to God

In the age they were in
more social than religious
speaking the words
but trusting in people
believing in themselves
the strength of humans
to mold, to fashion
to create a moral nation

Lip service to God
more convention
than firmly held belief
living out their teachings
believing in one’s self
the master of destiny
not submitting to God
the master of creation
