We are mortal,
We are tested,
We are tempted,
In this walk, in this life,
As others have, the same
Sin, the same evil,
The temptations of the flesh,
Of being mortal, of walking
Here on this earth, this coil,
This desert, to our oasis,
Standing on the promises,
The protections of God…
 
We are mortal,
We are human,
We are tempted,
By the flesh, sin,
By indwelling evil,
Through our journey,
We are made of clay,
We are tested to believe,
To follow the path, the way,
Written for us, to strive, longing,
For meaning, for purpose, for connection
With love, with hope, with the risen Christ…

stand firm, be careful that you do not fall – v3

Listen to this warning from holy scripture,
Stand firm, be careful that you do not fall,
That you do not stumble in your walk,
Reject the flesh, temptation, the lies
Placed before us, stand firm, be careful,
In every moment, in every step, each breath,
In every choice we make while we walk this earth…
 
Heed the warning, the consequence of evil,
Stand firm, in the battle, in the war with the enemy,
For He seeks to destroy, to separate you from God, from Christ,
To drag you down, into the pit, to turn you from heaven,
To the flesh, in the testing, in the refining fire,
In the burning away of all our past, our sin, the war,
Raging, alive, as we walk on our path, on this earth…
 
Cleave to the message, to the protection, of God,
Stand firm, be careful that you do not fall, you do not trip,
That you do not listen to the sirens, to the whispers,
That you do not act like the others seduced by sin, by power,
By the desires of the flesh, separating you, pulling you down
Away from the love of Christ, of God, the path of your life,
Your calling, your purpose, while you walk this earth…

before I found Jesus – v3

so many years since youth group

since I went to a church I called home

wandering out in the world

a hesitant Prodigal Son

before I found Jesus

at home in the filth, in the world

before I opened Your Word

so many things I now regret

my life unfiltered, without boundaries,

following the way of the flesh

my own vision,

believing in myself alone

the path I was walking

claiming I was blind to the evil,

(though I knew it was wrong)

the sin in my choices

Redeemed by God’s grace only

the Spirit’s hand on my life

raised from the darkness

God’s offer of grace

We all are one Body

one Body in Christ;

Sharing His table,

sharing His journey to the cross.

A participation in His sacrifice

is His body, the cup;

Giving His life for us

that we would be bound up.

Gathered in for Glory

to see Paradise;

Standing at the foot of His cross,

Seeing the Price He paid for us.
