angering God

our rebellion, our disobedience
angering God, our Creator;
we have wandered
so long in the desert;
we deserve the wrath of God

In slivers of discrete color – v3

Trying to describe
how I saw the world,
how I embraced the colors,
the shades of gray within each argument,
how I argued as an attorney
not in a continuum, a spectrum,
but one wavelength at a time.

Not a monochrome, stagnant,
only in black and white, not really,
nothing so stark in dividing the light;
there is a spectrum, I acknowledge,
a range of bright colors to choose from,
but for me not blending, changing
arguing one sliver of light at a time.

I saw definite lines,
without ambiguity, arguments
able to grasp ahold, tenaciously,
to argue for a single line, one shade,
as a spoke on a bicycle wheel
in slivers of discrete color
one wavelength at a time.

Not fuzzy lines morphing
one to another, shades of gray, blending;
a method, a path, choosing,
one or the other, plaintiff or defendant,
able to argue, to advocate,
holding onto one thin sliver,
one shade of color at a time.

We cannot make one disciple

They each have free will
we are not in control of their steps;
We can lead them,
we can guide them,
but we cannot change a human heart.

We cannot change any of them
no more than we can end addiction
of a loved one, a neighbor;
We cannot make one disciple
while we walk the earth.

like the firmament, the creation – v3

Like the firmament, Creation,
strands of history pulled up
from the waters, from the pages
the Book of Life, written;
The history of the world, of God’s people,
cascading forward, waves
a ripple through time, threads written
until the end of time, the end of the age.

no more than ending addiction – v5

We are called, we are commissioned,
to go and make disciples
to go to the ends of the earth
This is the Great Commission
to the followers of Christ
but no one can make disciples
changing another’s heart;
We can offer a blessing,
sowing seeds of God’s love,
and we can pray for them and their heart;
We cannot make one single disciple
while we walk the earth

We cannot make a stranger
a loved one, our brother
to become a disciple of Christ;
We cannot make one single disciple
while we walk on earth;
They have free will, we are not in control;
We can lead them, we can pray
we can guide them;
but we cannot change a human heart
no more than we can end addiction
of a loved one, a neighbor
we cannot make one single disciple
while we walk the earth

In spokes of color

Not a monochrome image
only in black and white;
Nothing so stark
in dividing the light.
There is a spectrum to choose from
a range of bright colors;
but for me not blending, changing
instead discrete lines.
Ambiguity, argument
able to grasp ahold, to choose,
to argue for a single line
as a bicycle tire.
In spokes of color
not fuzzy lines morphing
one to another, set apart;
A method, a path, arguing,
one color or another,
one at a time.
