Running with Grandpa – v2

Maybe two and a half,
certainly, no more than that,
running in the yard with grandpa,
going from flower to flower…

The mountain laurel,
giant rhododendron,
ground cover more at her height,
all of them sending her reeling,
in giggles of delight…

Drinking in the scents,
picking them in her imagination,
running from plant to plant,
too much for grandpa on the hot day,
happy to let her run by herself…

Bejeweled – v3

Encrusted with jewels,
diamonds, pearls, clear rubies,
bedazzled with sequins,
pearls of ever size and shape

Anointed and adorned
the beauty of the iris, the rhododendron,
the lily, the bud, the bloom
after the rain shower

Drawing eye and lens
to capture the purity of the moment
the flower festooned
bejeweled with the rain.

The Stagger of the Bumblebee – v2

Like a drunk who had a bit too much
or maybe the dance of the scarecrow;
The uncut scenes of Oz
so long, so long ago.

The stagger of the bumblebee
as if on toddler’s legs;
Lurching from bloom to bloom
finding little peace.

Such urgent work they are on,
never stopping to enjoy;
The beauty of each blossom
no rest for those in flight.

A Drunken Dancer

Like a drunken dancer
trying to catch a mate
rejected by those on the sidelines
moving from place to place

Wobbling in the air
not sure of the footing
moving from blossom to blossom
trying to alight

Staggering even in stillness
the air dead calm
nothing but its own desire
driving it fitfully on

Going as instinct leads
from flower to precious flower
hurtling on the still breezes
search for nectar so sweet

Wilting in the Heat

The flowers covering up
those who petals like hands
closing tightly against the heat
others wilting in the sun
drooping, folding
landing on themselves
seemingly gasping for breath
the plants in the front yard suffering
waiting for a change in the air
