Freed of the Shackles

God transforms us

freed of the shackles

worry, panic

that rule our lives

little demons

bad mental patterns

ways of responding

to outside stress

inner healing

life transforming

God upon us

healing brokenness

life affirming

steps growing

casting off

these long-held chains

minds freed

of the shackles

chains within my mind

at my feet

stepping over

the chains below me

safe within

God’s arms of love.

like a small flame growing

our faith, our lives, a journey

like a small flame growing

catching fire within our hearts

more of us, our Spirits

turning over to our God

growing stronger, life in Him

the Spirit abiding within us

a fire burning, Christ’s mark on us

called His children

to grow in love.

the Spirit through him

touching the body

of his beloved child

commissioned physically

his hands upon him

Peace in the Coming Storm

Foreboding, images
the storm raging
calm, joy
in this time before
in the gathered family
our town, Old Home Day,
yet knowing some of what
tomorrow holds in store

Peace in the coming storm
only because you are with us
praying without ceasing
to weather this storm
to be with us
ever beside us
guiding us through
the shoals of this life
the natural disasters
the winds that will come
the trials of this life

Calm now,
but tomorrow the rains
the winds whipping
come what may
Peace in the coming
in the storm to come
with us ever
the comfort of our rock
our Savior, our God
with us always
with us to protect us
whenever the winds rage

Settling for a few moments
sittings still in the midst
of the stormy night
lightening and thunder
held at bay
for a few blissful minutes
quieting the day,
slowing down a bit more
feeling the peace
Your heavenly peace
in the words shared
our few moments
together, quiet
in the midst
of storm

As in the Past

God is here with me
walking right beside me
here in the center of the storm
giving me a spirit of peace
a calmness in my trials
now as in the past
feeling God with me
against the stormy blast

My Provider

God is my provider
the source of my strength
the rock of my salvation
my brother and my friend

There with me
in every season of my life
walking beside me
in the trials that I face

As he has been all along
needing him here with me
lifting me up in my struggles
carrying me when I fall

Knowing you are with me
my comfort and my peace
resting only in your strong arms
in the certainty of your grace
